In a beachfront bar called The Venice Bistro, I noticed the light fixture in the men’s room, since the cover had been removed. Instead of the usual bulbous lightbulbs that you screw into the socket, there were three slender flame shaped bulbs that appeared to be hardwired into the fixture. Since the building is possibly 90 or 100 years old, is it possible that the light had never been upgraded since the building was built? All this makes me wonder, when did lights and other electric appliances become standardized?
There’s a screw-in bulb in the Livermore California Firehouse that’s been burning since 1900.
