I saw Disney's "Treasure Planet"

I saw it last night, it wasn’t so bad.

Not as bad as the reviews would suggest, anyway.

A reasonable amusing evening, &, unlike Disney’s Mighty Joe Young, I had no urge to walk out in the middle & demand a refund.

I’m glad this made a break with the Disney Princess motif.

Yes, I agree - my 4 1/2 year old boy really liked it.

Is it great? Nah - but certainly better than a lot of stuff out there for kids…

I enjoy animation, so I saw it and liked it.

I got to see it in IMAX. Pretty awesome.

Victorian science fiction isn’t really my bag, but I enjoyed it moderately. The animation is pretty good with a near perfect blend of CG and hand-drawn being accomplished for the John Silver character (his arm was computer animated, the rest of him hand drawn).

And I know that the “stigma” of the Princess model will stay with Disney for a very long time, but it isn’t really accurate anymore.

Except for a few of the early, most famous Disney animated features (Snow White, Sleeping Beauty) and three of the biggest from the last decade (The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Pocahantas, and *Aladdin if you want to stretch the idea), Disney has produced a reasonable spectrum of stories, in the last 12 years this would include Hercules, Hunchback, Atlantis, Lilo & Stitch, and Fantasia.

Wildly varying quality in those, but certainly not a clean “Princess” slate.
