Favorite Animated Disney Protagonist

It’s hard for me to pick one honestly, much harder than picking my favorite villains.

I have strong liking for Belle and Quasimodo myself. They were two of the purest, nicest characters but also mostly believable.

Let’s keep the Pixar movies out of this thread, if we don’t mind (even though I know Disney owns Pixar, let’s treat them separately).

Belle has always been my favourite, though mostly for reasons that don’t stand up to scrutiny, of her being the nerdy character who likes books, and someone who clearly has her head on morally straight. She ends up being a wealthy Princess married to a handsome Prince, so that all falls apart somewhat.

I also like Milo Thatch, from Atlantis.

If we can go CG, I do like Rapunzel.

CG is definitely allowed, as long as it is a Walt Disney studio production, so Rapunzel, Anna, etc are in.

I never saw Atlantis. Probably should get around to that some day.

I Like Lilo, and Mulan.

Aladdin, of course.

just films, or are animated TV series’ allowed, too?

Even though Disney completely bastardized his story, I like Hercules.

Quasimodo, Snow White, Maleficent and Ursula

Also to add, it’s interesting that Quasimodo and Frollo is getting so much love in the protagonist/antagonist thread given how poorly the movie is regarded.

Rapunzel. That wide-eyed optimism is fantastic.

Honorable mentions: Wreck-It Ralph and Lilo.

I’d forget about Wreck it Ralph  Not to mention its the only Pixar film I really enjoyed

Perry the Platypus!

Mulan

Wreck It Ralph was not Pixar, it was Walt Disney studio… and he’s a great choice.

We could count the disney toons too if you want I suppose, but I was thinking mostly the full length animated features.

Ursula and Malificent as protagonists?

Also, Hunchback is a complicated movie that has a lot of extremely great parts, but doesn’t seem to be a movie that is just the sum of its parts. It has some of the best songs, the best villain, a great protagonist… and yet, just doesn’t seem to be anyone’s favorite Disney movie. I certainly didn’t like it as a kid, but going back and watching it as an adult I was impressed with what a great movie it is. I think it was just too adult for kids to latch onto it and love it the way they did with every other Disney movie.

Tiana, from Princess and the Frog. She’s just about the most sensible Disney hero.

Jasmine, from Aladdin, for much the same reason. The scene where she outwits Jaffar was wonderful.

Ariel, from Little Mermaid, same reasons. Although she comes up a bit short in the brains department, she’s still sensible and practical.

Mater, Wreck it Ralph, Pacha from the Emperors New Groove.

Oh sorry! I thought it was my bad. And yes I didn’t read the question properly guess that’s what tiredness does to you @: I do agree with you though on Hunchback when you watch it as a kid its not brilliant but when you watch it as an adult your appreciation for it goes up. I’ve always said its more adult than the other Disney films x

I just can’t warm to Tiana personally but I do think as well she is the most sensible

Robin Hood. In a word, dreamy.

Kim Possible
