Julianne Hough and Blake Shelton opened for him.
Hough was having a good time and she was sorta fun. She hopped around did a lot of contrived awkward dancing. She played for about 25 minutes. She was definitely a rookie, you could tell, and I pictured her being a late-starter in her early 30s. But, I just read on Wikipedia that she’s 20 years old (born in 1988). Wow.
Blake Shelton was great. He’s got quite a sense of humor. He played for probably 45 minutes. The crowd was a lot more into him that they were with Hough and it’s understandable. I caught one of his guitar picks!
Then George Strait. Man, what a good show. His voice is still strong and crystal clear, and the band was fantastic. He played a lot of great tunes, including Run, Ocean Front Property, The Fireman, Amarillo By Morning, Check Yes or No, Troubadour, Give It Away, and I Saw God Today. He also did Folsom Prison Blues during his encore. This guy hasn’t lost a bit of showmanship, musical ability or charisma and he’s 57. Songs he did NOT sing that I wish he would have: I Cross My Heart and Love Without End, Amen. But I can certainly live with his actual set list.
If you ever have the means, I highly recommend seeing him live before he’s all done.
