I saw Spidey today!

…or possibly a stuntman dresed in the Spiderman costume, which by the way is really cool and sparkly, even from a distance.

They are filming scenes from Spiderman 3 in downtown Cleveland this week, and today I had to leave my store and walk across downtown to deliver something to a customer. I had to (well, alright, I had a choice which street to walk on and I chose Euclid) walk down the street they’ve closed for the filming, and it was very cool…lots of wrecked cars everywhere and New York taxi cabs and NY souvenier
stands and a little Tiki bar, and then there was a huge crowd of people standing on the sidewalk, everyone with their cellphone cameras held above their heads. So of course I stopped and watched, and presently Spiderman stepped out from the center of the crowd and got into a waiting van. And it wasn’t the fake Spiderman with a potbelly that’s been running around downtown in a cheap costume, but someone very buff and lithe in the real suit.

They’ve filmed several movies downtown in the past few years, and one we even got to supply some props for, and I made a scrapbook that was to be used in one scene. And I’ve got to meet a few stars (like Isaiah Washington). So far only one crew member has stopped in to shop with us from Spidey3, but there’s a few days left. But the best thing about walking down the street they are using? (which, by the way, is one of the major roads through downtown and it’s closed everyday…such fun) The best part is the silence. No traffic noise, just the sound of people out and about and talking and having a great time. Maybe I’ll get to actually see them film something one of these times!

So I know that people in the bigger cities get used to the prescence of film crews, but I’m glad I live somewhere where we still get a bit giddy about it all!

Neat! I assume the Spidey outfit wasn’t black, but the standard colors?

Did it look anything like this?

Spiderman 3

Hmmm. Maybe it was a Spider-clone.

That link didn’t connect up right, but I found the Spidey spy pics on there, and yes, it looked like that…the blue and red. Didn’t see anything that looked like that dark grey thing at the top. Those are all the cars I walked past.

I imagine this will be a scene from early in the movie, and he will get his black suit later.

Though I’m totally guessing.

Try this:

kittenblue, what kind of a business do you run? Sounds interesting, making a scrapbook that gets used as a prop.

I saw Spidey too at the Tribe game Friday night.

Except, er, he was a little rotund to be the REAL Spiderman, and he constantly had a beer in his hand, but the fella wearing the spandex suit (with long-sleeved white shirt underneath) and mask was definitely the warmest fan at the game - and got a lot of air-time on the JumboTron

I’ve been thinking about starting a thread just like this! I haven’t seen Spiderman, but Matthew McConaughey and Matthew Fox (along with many other people) just left my home town in West Virginia. I got to see some scenes being filmed and even was in one! It was a crowd scene, but still it was cool.

I know a lot of you “big city folk” have seen movies being filmed, but small towns go crazy over it. I’m so glad I go to see it. Now to just wait for the movie to come out! (We Are Marshall)

And to bring it back to the OP, I have a good friend who was cast as an extra in this movie, and he was also an extra in the first Spiderman.

I am SO fricking jealous.
(spends valuable part of her lifetime panting with jealousy)
Give him his fricking hyphen, will you? Spider-Man. Sheesh.

I work for Things Remembered. Making the scrapbook wasn’t one of our normal services. They bought a wood scrapbook from us, had it engraved, and then asked if we knew anyone who could assemble the pages for them…just basic cut and paste and arrange, the old-fashioned way. It was used as a prop (the outside view) and then given as a gift to one of the crew (that’s what the inside stuff was for). We also engraved desk items that were used as props…nameplates, penstands. I’m trying to remember the name of the movie…I think it was …oh, shoot, it’ll come to me…not Infinity, but something that sounds like that…I’ll have to research it.
