I Saw Steve Earle last night

At an In-store appearance at Twist and Shout in Denver. I’m amazed at how good one guy, a mandolin and stomping feet can sound.

He played about six songs, then signed his new book.
Awesome.

Was one of them “Copperhead Road?”

It was! Just him and the Mandolin.

A little unplugged show for about 100 people. Then he signed his new book.

Sweet night.

I saw him in a venue like that several years ago. He and his mandolin. Maybe 50 people in the club. Amazing.

I know a bunch of people who’d say that you’re not really a musician if you can’t make something musical by yourself and without electricity. I don’t exactly agree–some stuff I listen to is made strictly by pressing buttons and turning dials–but I’m willing to see it applied to blues/country/rock.

Good for you, I bet it was awesome. Do you know the names of the other songs he played?

He did “Waiting on the Sky” and “This City”, and “Every Part of Me” from the new album. The last one was written for his wife, Allison Moorer

The album was named after the Hank song “Never Get Out Of This World Alive”, and he covered that, “Copperhead Road”, “Jerusalem” and one more I can’t remember right now.

He is a hell of a storyteller and raconteur. Talked a little about politics and the Bin Laden shooting before Jerusalem.

Then he signed books, rekkids, posters, whatever you brought with you. I got his mnew book and a 7" of the Hank Single with the Del McCroury band.

Me too! Had picked up tickets for some shows earlier in the day, saw the signs, came back free show. I love living in Denver.

I remembered the other song he did, it was “Little Emperor” off the new album.

Love the guy. Got turned on to him via “I Feel Alright” double CD. I’m a big fan!

Did I miss something?

The Old 97s are coming this month…are you going to go? I’ll be taking Mrs. Lebeef for her birthday.
Maybe we could have a mini Denver dope.

Do they often call him Speedo?

Sorry, I meant “Ain’t Ever Satisfied”

Drinking was involved.
