Had it on DVR.
I remember seeing the earlier one when I was a kid. I remember liking it because it had scientists as heroes and I liked science and wanted to grow up to be a ‘scientist’.
So…let me get this straight…
Humanity of the far future is under threat by a microbe-size alien life form most likely sent as an attack to wipe out humanity. They figure out that the only way to kill it is an extinct bacteria that was only found in undersea volcanic vents.
Ok…sounds good.
They have the ability to send items back in time through a wormhole. Obviously they cannot get it back or why not just send a ship to fetch the bacteria and return.
Hmmmm…ok
SO…one must send instructions back to preserve this needed bacteria. However, the past people might not take it seriously…so seal up some of this dangerous lifeform and send it back as well.
They have information from that historic time…enough to know that ASCII code was used.
So what do they do?
Make the capsule made out of 2 different molecules so that it can convey a binary code to be interpreted using ASCII. Name the bacteria but don’t include much more data.
Hmmmmm…
Why not send a note written in English, Russian, German…etc. saying something like:
"Dear recipient. You will find the following message hard to believe but it is true and you will have the proof you need shortly.
In the year 25060, mankind is under attack by an alien force. They have unleashed a biological weapon that is contained in this capsule. DO NOT OPEN until you have a secure site. The reason we have sent this to you is that an extinct (in our time) bacteria called X will kill it…
blaa blaa blaa.
?
I mean…WTH? Do people of the future overthink things?
