I see we are not the only country with our race relations askew.

If I was her father, I would be sooooooo tempted to send her back to school without the cornrows. But with a great, big, blond Afro.

Replying to the gist of the title, I would have to ask:

If the school banned the black girls wearing cornrows as well, could or should they play the race card ? How does this school maintain their hair standards and avoid the charge of skewed race relations?

I’m also thinking of the contoversy of French schools banning headdress in the classrooms and the impact on muslims.

I was going to reply to him, but a better comeback could not possibly be made! Good call.

No a black afro.

“I’m the new Jan Brady!”
Are you guys looking at the picture of the little girl? How can that be a disruptive hair style? How does she look street or gang?

The picture I saw had her wearing a rather obnoxious self-satisfied smirk, which immediately made me turn against her side of the argument. Just being honest…

And yes, it’s quite possible that there’s a wider issue involving hair styles and gangs. And, if you read the comment from the school head that I quoted earlier, it wasn’t about specifically banning gang-related clothing, styles, etc., but about a strict approach to all aspects of uniform, to prevent any gang identification being worn.

She’s a teenager. The smirk isn’t scheduled for surgical removal for several years yet.

Well, given where she’s from, it’s surprising the thirteen-year-old’s mugshot appeared in the media rather than a police record…
