Buddy Wrote Homehas been published in the August 2000 issue of The Blue Review. Thank God. I had had quite a long dry spell and was feeling mighty discouraged.
BTW, Blue Review also bought my first story, and I took Satan’s advice and framed the check. It sits right above my writing desk. Very motivating, indeed!
I remember your first story was published right around the time mine was. I haven’t sold another yet, but I also haven’t tried.
I didn’t frame mine, but I did scan it, as well as take a screen shot of the site with the story(The Invitation) on it. (Yes, that’s my name on top of Gwyneth Paltrow! :p)
Very nicely written, Girl Next Door. I have all sorts of questions to ask after reading it, but they’re for me to answer — not for you. I went back and re-skimmed your first story there and I think the new one’s much better.
For the hell of it, I just e-mailed in a submission to the publisher. Let’s see what comes of it. I’ll keep the Teeming Millions posted, if anyone cares.
Really really great, scared the shit out of me in a very sweetly subtle yet creepy way. I’ve literally got goosebumps. I love a story that makes you think just a little bit.shudders I hope you don’t mind but I cut and pasted that one in my “don’t read on a dark night” file.
Congrats, Cindi
BTW I’m a published author too. I know how proud you must be
One thing I don’t get:
If you frame the check, how do you get paid?
Maybe you can send it to me in exchange for a color xerox of it, or a wall poster from Kinkos.
Wow, that’s a great story. Your first story was wonderful, too - For some reason, I was thinking about it earlier today, but I don’t remember why… Anyway, keep up the good work!
Awww, you guys are THE BEST! Thanks for all the kind words. I’m really really glad you liked the story. Montfort, I remember well the fact that our stories sold at around the same time. I also remember that you got paid a lot more than I did! :o Good luck with your submission. He’s a good guy to work for.
Congratulations Girl Next Door, both on getting published and for writing such a great story. Makes me realise I’ve got a long way to go before I can call any of my stuff publishable.
