I soooo cold

You are one cruel person, Bambi.

Evil, even.

As I type it’s 4F. A measly four above. But I wouldn’t live elsewhere (although I toyed with moving to Alaska after college). I enjoy having seasons that do not include the word hurricane, but do include snow, aurora borealis, and Indian Summers.

But I also like being able to enter into a warm house when it’s frigid outside.

The furnace here is original to the house- 1948. According to the gas company guy it’s “one heckuva workhorse”, but I do hope to upgrade either this summer or next, adding A/C to the mix also. It wouldn’t be so bad down here if I didn’t have exposed concrete brick walls- no insulation. I had hoped to insulate/sheetrock, but lack of green prevented me from doing so. The gas bills aren’t too bad. I have a programmable thermostat and keep it pretty chilly in here anyways. The only times the heat is set at 68F is from 6am-730am, then from 7pm-11pm. Midday it’s 65F, overnight it’s 63F. This month my bill for gas only, which also includes the stove and dryer, was $62.00.

A lovely 28(F) here. It just dropped below freezing last night, which was annoying, because that’s the point at which I make myself close the windows. Cold is good; hypothermia, not so much. It’s a nice, round 0 in upstate NY, where I’m headed in two days for some holiday fun, and it’s only expected to drop from there. Excellent, then, maybe I’ll see my first white Christmas in about five years. Won’t be repeating my stroll down the frozen Saranac; that almost didn’t end up so well last time, but if the city government has deemed it safe, I will most assuredly go do donuts on the lake. Make a guy feel like a regular James Bond, that will.

Ahh, winter. Ain’t it great?

We cuddle a lot.
The lucky ones do, anyway. :frowning:

It’s a balmy 10 F here at the moment, although according to Weather.com it “feels like” -1 F. Damned windchill.

That’s what mine was last month, without the dryer and washer. Can’t wait to see what it is this month.

My furnace was original too, from '68 I think and the new one makes it real nice now. Should be a lot cheaper, and i’ll be able to keep it warmer too.

Snood, IIRC, installs a piece of adware called Gator, which usually shows up as a little icon in your taskbar. It’s possible tha there’s a clean version now, but 1-2 years ago it was one of the most common carriers of spyware. I’m suprised that Ad Aware and Spybot came up empty. A quick Google search didn’t turn up a definite answer, most of the info was 2 years old. So, play at your risk, but I’d get rid of it to be safe. go to popcap for free, addictive and spyware free fun.

I bought Snood. Between Snood and Jewel Quest, I can rot my brain but good.
I have Norton Corporate on this puter and nothing had turned up.

Today in these here hinterlands we have icy sleet. BUT It MIGHT hit 27F!! Of course our high for tomorrow will be the 22 we’re to see at midnight tonight and it’s supposed to coast downhill from there. The sanding trucks are out in full force, some schools outside the metro area are closed.

We’re going to have a snowless Christmas. :frowning:

Wanna cuddle BlackKinght? There’s a reason I’m cushiony- I snuggle well!

The temperature has now risen to 11 degrees (from 3 degrees earlier this morning), and no, that’s not factoring in wind chill. I went downstairs this morning to feed the cats and noticed the cold air, no, make that the frigid air, blowing in through the backdoor and the frame. I’m not sure what in the world happened to the weather stripping there. I put duct tape over the gap until I can get to the hardware store this evening after work to buy some door weatherstripping.

Last week, the heating oil company delivered a tank full of heating oil–at the tune of $400 (about $2 a gallon) and I looked this morning–we’ve used almost 1/4 a tank. At this rate, we’ll ever be frozen or bankrupt (or maybe both) by the end of winter.
