I Spent 3 Hours In The ER Last Night

As I was leaving fencing class, carrying my equipment bag, I lost my balance, did a couple of fumbling backwards steps, and fell hard against the wall with my head.

Ouch.

They sent me home after drawing blood and a CAT scan. I now have 4 staples on the back of my head holding the gash closed.

Fun night.

Well, at least you didn’t fall on your sword - it being a fencing class and all.

Get better. Tell everyone it’s a “dueling scar”.

My son has a scar on the back of his head from a windowsill. We tell people it’s a memory expansion slot.

(Incidentally - why the CAT scan? Were you displaying any concentration, memory or balance symptoms?)

Yes, balance issues. Ongoing, they just wanted to be sure.

Isn’t balance a big part of fencing? If that happened to be I think I’d be more embarrassed than sore and I bet you are super sore. Staples in the head - ouch!

Yes it is.

Yes I am.

Yes, they were apparently pre-existing.

More seriously, my sympathies. I’ve had my own noggin-meets-brick incident that required stitches, and it was no fun at all.

Good idea. Let everyone think he’s a coward as he was wounded while running away.

No no … “I got it at fencing practice. You should see the other guy!”

Seriously … that sucks! Glad you’re ok

At least it didn’t hit a vital spot.
“Brian, are you OK?”

“It’s alright, skull absorbed damage.”

“Did you mess him up good?”

“Yup, I got blood all over him”

Since they’re putting the staples in anyway, it would have been awesome if they’d stapled a little sign to the back of your head. Something like, “Punk Will Never Die,” “I Just Wanted To Feel Something,” or “If You Can Read This, My Brain Slug Fell Off.”
