"I support Terrorism by eating raisins" or "Misinformation and the war on drugs"

From the New York Times, October 11, 2001

The ad would be more accurate if it had middle-aged white guys in suits saying those things. It’s the US government that supports terrorism in Colombia through military aid.

Besides, how many American teenage drug users know about and really care about world events?

No, no, it’s bedwetting that supports terrorism.

Chula- the bin Laden honey is sold in the Middle-east, not the US.

As I understand economic principle all like commodities are related no matter where they are sold.

If the world has a finite supply of grommets then gromets produced in country A and sold to country B still effect country C if country C produces or purchaes grommets.

In other words if you purchase honey in the US from Britain only the price of honey in the Middle East will reflect the price in the US and vice versa. I’m not an economist, however, so I may have this principle wrong.

Zen- that sounds about right, except that the honey that was mentioned is apparently sold solely in the Mideast and Pakistan.

Excellent!!! Do you need any financial backers for this venture? I’m in!!!

I suppose the same goes for the Afghani heroin that Americans generally don’t consume.

Afghanistan’s heroin actually goes mainly to Europe.

(Nevertheless, we can’t be certain. So remember kids, when you’re shooting up, support our troops and stick to Mexican Tar.)

Okay, enough with the fun and games. As America has made disgustingly clear with its willingness to ignore the despicable behavior of the would-be Palestine, its fight is against international terrorism–meaning only the terrorism that directly affects Merkins. Therefore, baddies like FARC and the drugs they extort funding from should logically be disincluded from this “war.”

We’ve made it abundantly clear that our “war on terrorism” isn’t against all terrorists. But the “war on drugs” and the false propaganda it generates is unquestionably against our own citizens.

The point is that if everyone in the U.S. stopped consuming honey, some of the honey produced for american consumption would end up in the international market, lowering the cost. Lowered cost, less money for ‘the terrorists’.

Californian Raisins - the dried fruit of Satan.

Hey, the US Government is a little bit smarter than you give them credit for.

Consider, the aim of the drug war is to eliminate drug use entirely. Okay, if that’s the case, how do you do it? Well, first you have to find some reasonable targets. A reasonable target right now is the yokel-kid from middle America who smokes weed occasionally with his buddies. Hell, yeah, he hates those terrorists… and he’s going to do something about.

You show an uneducated youngin’ an ad like that and you’re bound to have an impact. He’s not likely to actually check up on the facts, it just gets pushed into the back of his head. Suddenly, the Anti-Drug G-men have a constinuency backing. Here’s a whole set of middle-American average and undereducated folks who know that drugs are evil, but don’t remember exactly why.

It’s self-perpetuation people. Pure and simple.

<Joe> puff Hey dude, have you seen that TV commercial, the one that says smoking weed supports terrorism or something?
<Larry> Whoa, are you serious? puff
<Joe> Hell yeah, man. It was on, like, yesterday. Or the day before. puff On that channel with the show about that gay dude.
<Larry> Frasier? puff
<Joe> No, dude. The one that lives with that chick. puff
<Larry> Drew Carey?
<Joe> Drew Carey lives by himself, man. I meant Will & Grace.
<Larry> What?! Will and Grace are gay?
<Joe> Just Will. And that other guy.
<Larry> Shit.
<Joe> Are you gonna hit that or what?
<Larry> Oh, sorry. puff
<Joe> Yeah. So like, they said smoking weed supports Osama bin Laden. puff
<Larry> Oh yeah, that sucks. Where’d this weed come from?
<Joe> My friend Abe. But he told me he’s not a terrorist.
<Larry> No, like where’d it come from?
<Joe> I think it’s Canadian. Dude, come on, are you gonna hit that?
<Larry> I think it’s gone. puff No, maybe not.
<Joe> It’s Canadian. From BC, I think. Abe was there last weekend. puff
<Larry> Canadians are terrorists?
<Joe> I guess so.
