I suspect someone is trying to scam me, but it's weird.

“Sure! When can you be there to sign for it?”

I just phoned him again. He didn’t answer and It went to voicemail. We’ll see if he calls back.
Celidin has expressed some concerns about the contracting firm in a PM.

He just called back. I don’t have to do anything except show up for work on Tuesday. They’ll have equipment for me to work on.

Ron: Maybe too obvious… KP! It’s a trap!.. unless Drakken wants us to think it’s a trap. See, if he knows we know it’s a trap, he must think we won’t fall for it. So… so if we do fall for it, he’ll be the one caught off guard!
Kim: In a weird way, that sort of makes sense.

In that case at least there’d be an address and a company name.

So if Tuesday morning I show up and the office is empty and the contractor’s phone number is dead, at least I’ll be in the clear.

In cases like this they would go after the only company rep they can nail.

That would be you.

Yeah, but you still have the “Murder you and sell your organs” threat that each new employee faces.

Okay. I’ll just say that I’m not actually an employee and can’t sign for deliveries and that someone else will have to sign.

But seriously, we’re getting way over the top in scam complexity.

Sure, this is the Dope! When you ask us how this might be a scam or attempt to steal your identity, we’re going to come up w/ a plethora of ideas that will satisfy that suggestion.

And you’d better post here as soon as you can on Tuesday. I’ll be relieved if you touch base with a “No worries! Normal company, normal job, normal people who’ve been with the company for years and like their job.”

Though I might be secretly hoping for a soap opera involving stolen computers and a dummy building and a treasure hunt for the real CEO and millions deposited in an offshore account in your name in a foiled attempt to implicate you … and you narrowly avoiding being framed for the murder of the recruiter.

Try Glassdoor, if you haven’t already. You might find some inside info from employee there.

Hmm. That could be the explanation for the elaborate ruse done simply to score a Macbook. They would then have a Macbook purchased in my name with which to do nefarious things that I would be blamed for!

I’m just kidding around… do NOT take my crazy scenario seriously.

Hope you don’t walk into your new job all paranoid, just because you know a whole website of skeptics…

I wasn’t taking you seriously. I was joking. I apologize if that wasn’t clear.

Well played. Just wanted to make sure.

I’d feel terrible if come Tuesday you posted “Well, they said I seemed paranoid. I did keep swiveling my head, peering into darkened offices and dialing 911 and saying 'No emergency…yet!” Oh, and my new boss walked up behind me and I got her in a headlock, thinking the Kleenex she was holding was full of chloroform."

Go in, get murdered, then come post here as soon as you can. Then, for the first time we’ll have a real zombie thread on the Dope!

Today we find out…

Best of luck (and skill)! I’m working a half day today just so I can refresh this thread fifty times…

tyuping ids HARFD wityh fgingherzs crosdsded!

No news yet. I’m guessing I was right with the organ thing.

He could just be busy or not able to access forums or actually working versus diddling about on the net but… nope, I’m going with organs.
