This has happened so many times that it simply can not be sheer luck or happenstance:
I usually set the CD player in my car on random and in the one second pause between songs I will say to myself the name or sing a snippet of the next song. The next song won’t have started yet, so there is no subconscious recognition of the opening notes or something like that.
It never happens where I think of one song and another one plays and it doesn’t happen every song or even every day, but a few times a week, for certain and only in the car predicting the next song.
Just now, though, I was brushing my teeth and the whole time I was thinking of one particular song and when I got back to my desk I hit play on WinAmp, which is set to random and has (checking) exactly 100 songs in the playlist. It finished the last minute or so of the song it was on when I left for lunch and bam, the song I had been thinking about was on.
Eerie.
I need to figure a way to expand this talent either to other mediums or at least to more than a few seconds so I can be the first caller on radio contests.
I was in my car listening to Tool’s Prison Sex when I started “singing” Nickelback’s How You Remind Me in my head. I press the source button on my remote to switch to radio and there it was, the first few notes of How You Remind Me.
I scare myself sometimes. Oh, and me and *thinksnow have the same birthday.
And I knew I was going to fuck up the coding, yet I did not preview. I haven’t fully realized my gift yet. BTW snowy, they usually ask for the 13th caller around here.
Wow! I’m psychic too. I’m the same way with phone calls. Whenever someone calls, before I even pick up the phone, I ALWAYS know who it is. Each and every time, no joke. If I can’t tell who it is, I don’t even answer the phone because that means that it’s someone I don’t know, and therefore have no interest in speaking to. It’s kinda weird, but it’s true, I swear.
Ooooh, Sevendust. Let’s marry, thinksnow. (I’m totally kidding. Unless you want to, then I’m cool with that too…)
HA!
I do the phone thing, too. And I knew that something was wrong hours before I got a call from my mom telling me my best friend had died. And, after spending the entire day thinking about what I would do in such a situation and actually considering locking the doors at 9:25pm, I was robbed at knifepoint at my place of business - a gas station - at 9:31pm.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but it’s simple statistics. You don’t remember all the times that you’re wrong, but the times you’re right stand out in your head. Also, as a random CD plays, your chances of getting the next song right increase. For a 12 track CD, your chances of getting the first song right is 1/12. For every song after, it’s 1/11, 1/10, 1/9, 1/8. As you can see, if you guess on every track, On average, you’ll actually be right around 2-3 times on every CD.
I dream by opposites. Last night I dreamed I was in a greenhouse on the side of a mountain, being chased by a goat. Today—the very next day!—not only wasn’t I in a greenhouse or near any mountains, but I HAVEN’T EVEN SEEN A GOAT.
It must be … because I’m a Pisces too and I’m psychic.
I predicted (to Cyni & Dire Wolf) I’d be single by this weekend – and sure enough, I’m single. I even predicted the way it would happen …and I was right.
If it were the first time this happened or something, I’d likely agree, but this has been going on for years and I’ve begun paying attention to it. If I think of a song and it doesn’t play, which does happen maybe once in a blue moon, I remember that. Fact is, much more often than not, it’s the scenario described in the OP. It’s not simple statistics, either, as my player repeats after playing all of the songs once, so, at any one time, it might have all 18 (burned MP3’s) available, or it might only have 3, but I won’t know where it is in the rotation. As for the computer, like I said, I have exactly 100 MP3’s in the rotation today, but I usually have somewhere on the order of 250-400 which I’ll jump in and out of random on, depending on my mood.
Nice try, though.
[sub]BTW: Silver, bella was kidding around about phone calls, notice she mentioned the caller ID?[/sub]
I don’t need to be psychic, I just use The Force. The Force is strong with me. I’m with Jman, there’s a difference between coincidence and psychic ability. Go to someone else’s house and predict what song will come on their cd player next or who will call on their phone, if you can do that, you just might be psychic. And then you get your own show on the Sci-Fi channel.
