I think I broke my freakin' toe...

and I have to bowl in a tournament next weekend. I can’t wear shoes!

It might just be sprained, though. It’s feeling better, and the bruises are fading some. But I can’t wear shoes! I can’t bowl without shoes. I’ve been wearing flipflops to work, which is fun. I hate shoes, anyway.

I have been signed up for this tournament since February. I might have to cut a hole in the side of my shoe. It’s my left pinkie toe, my sliding foot.

OK–I’m sure all of you are wondering how in the world did I break my toe. (Ri-iight…)

So- My newlywed husband Tom (4 months now) got a new job about a month ago. He’s a truck driver, and this job requires him to go out of town a lot. (His last job was local.) So we never see each other any more! He invited me to go with him to Shreveport on Saturday, to deliver a load of pipe to an oil rig on Sunday morning. I thought it would be fun! Our 4th month anniversary was that night, and we planned to go to a casino and gamble a little.

That part went very well! We had a good time, once we found someplace to park an 18-wheeler with about 60,000 pounds of pipe on it. The problem happened the next morning.

See, there was no passenger seat for me, so I sat in the sleeper on the edge of the bed. Remember how I mentioned I don’t like shoes anyway? So I’m sitting back there, and we start down this winding dirt road to deliver to the rig. It’s only wide enough for the truck. And it has HUGE craters in it! So we’re cruising about 20, and out of the blue a pickup truck comes around a bend going fast! Tom slams on the brakes, and I catch myself by my hands, but my little toe catches the “lip” of the cab/sleeper and S-P-R-E-A-D-S. Owie-owie-owie!

So now I can touch my toe, but pushing from the outside hurts. And no, I’m not going to the doctor, because they can’t do anything for a broken baby toe.

I hope it will feel better by next Saturday.

Buddy Tape.

Tape your little toe to your next-to-little toe. Take Ibuprofen.

IANAD – but that’s what one would tell you. A physician might also take an x-ray to find out if it was broken. Not that it would affect treatment.

Had a patient once – two patients, actually – she had a broken little toe, he had a broken coccyx (tailbone). Not much I could do for either of them. I did recommend non-slip matting for their shower.
