I’ve wanted a tattoo for years, but have never quite figured out what would be a good design. Permanently marking my body is a daunting task! Then my body had to be permanently marked in an entirely different way. So…why not build on it?
I had back surgery in August (laminotomy/discectomy/foraminotomy, for those who care), and now I have a 2 1/2 pink scar in the small of my back. The scar is often visible when I’m sitting if I’m not wearing a long shirt or if I’m not being mindful.
Knowing it draws attention, why not have fun with it…so…I’m thinking of having a tattoo of a zipper drawn over top of it. Now, is that or or :dubious: or  ?
There, that should fill my smilie quota for a while
You should consult a tattoo artist: some scars won’t retain ink properly, and some artists won’t tattoo over recent scarring (if they consider 3-4 months to be recent, which I do, but IANATA).
I think the zipper idea is witty. However, in addition to taking Misnomer’s excellent advice, you should also check with your surgeon before you get the tattoo.
With the reaffirmed caveat that you should check with both the tattoo artist and you doctor, I think it’s a great idea!
If they won’t let you tattoo right on the scar, ask them how close you can get. If it’s anything like my son’s back scar, it’d also be funny to tattoo an oval around it, just off the edge, and put little centipede legs coming off of it - so nothing need touch the scar itself, but the scar would be a little buggy body.
I think it’s a great idea! Why not have some fun with that scar, and a zipper sounds perfect.
I have a perfectly round burn scar on my wrist that I did on a dare one night while drunk, and I’ve given serious thought to having “Luna” tattooed above it with white ink. I’ll turn the scar into a full moon.
