I got H1N1 two years ago. I remember getting it, and shaking and feeling miserable, I remember going to the hospital to wait for hours, and then going up and going home. I remember going to the doctor for Tamiflu the next day.
I really son’t recall anything else. I had it for a week, and the week is a blank.
I guess the doctors must have misdiagnosed me when I was 12 since I definitely could have picked up $1000 despite being out of school for 4 days with a 104 fever.
Then again I have had a couple $5 colds/flus. I guess we can use that as a measurement of how bad the disease is.
It is not quite gone. I feel really weak. That is not a cold either. generally a cold runs a week.
I felt better earlier but now i want to go to bed. But the Tigers/yankees are on at 8:37.
When you have the flu, going to the doctor is an ordeal. Getting dressed ,getting in the car and then sitting around a waiting room feels like torture. Then they can’t do anything for you. So you go back home, climb in bed under a mountain of covers and fight it out.
Fuck me. A friend just emailed that he is going to the Tiger game. A friend was going to ask me but since I am sick, he was asked.
Going up the stairs at the ballpark would feel like a free climb up a sheer cliff.
Yeah - or the OP might have been exposed before the shot-based immunity had a chance to fully develop.
Hopefully, if it is the flu, you’ll have a milder case than you otherwise would have. About 14 years ago I had flu or something VERY like it, despite the shot (a lot of people reported the same, that year), and was only actively praying for death for about 6 hours. From what I understand, a full-blown case, the wish-I-was-dead phase usually lasts longer. I did feel plenty wretched for several days, but painkillers lowered the fever / aches enough that I could function, sort of.
You’re actually probably strongly advised to get the shot this year, since you’re pregnant and the flu can hit pregnant women especially hard. I doubt you’re a candidate for the nasal spray version, unfortunately.
The time I mentioned where I had something flu-like despite the shot, I had a pretty vicious secondary infection / asthma flare, which would have been tricky to treat if I’d been pregnant (would have limited the antibiotics they could have used, for example).
Some people can power through the weakness and suffering.
I have had the flu. Then the bookstore called me and told me a book was in. Then I walked five miles round trip for the book. In a snowstorm.
I didn’t say powering through the weakness and suffering is a good idea.
I’m just saying, sometimes people react in different ways. The flu may, in fact, not stop you from performing daily tasks. I have done all kinds of incredibly stupid things with a flu. I think it screws my judgment really badly.
It is still hanging on . But with a strong case of the flu, the bathroom seems like miles away. I don’
t know if this is the flu, but I have never been affected this badly with a cold.
True. I was fortunately scheduled to be off work the week I got the flu, but I went to back work just after it turned into a fairly mild case of pneumonia. Of course, I slept 11-12 hours a day and started crying while out shopping the one day I thought I could handle running errands after work but realized that I had to go home after one store because I’d be too tired to drive home after going anywhere else…
You have my sympathy. Back in the 90s when I worked in Hartford at ADT in the call center there [loved the job, some of the people not so much …] it was literally 50 miles from my driveway to their parking lot.
I got hit with the flu, had to go in to work. Drove there for my odd swingy shift [9pm start, I did banks and the shift was timed for one of the big clients cleaning crews to be going in and out] got there, couldn’t even get out of my car. My shift boss took pity on me, called my husband and had him come in to get me and moved my car to in front of one of the security cameras and let me snooze until mrAru picked me up. Gave me the next 2 days until the weekend off. My friend Matchew brought my car home the next day after work and mrAru drove him back in to his car.
I swear the house could catch fire and I wouldn’t have been able to crawl out to save my life. I had enough trouble getting to the bathroom to pee. If I had been a guy I would probably have been peeing in a bottle to avoid getting out of bed. I seriously doubt 10 K$ would have gotten me out either. Naked hunk of actor or not…
Zombie juice has entered the equation. My wife deciding that my coughing had to stop bought Nyquil. She already escaped to another bedroom. But that was not good enough.
So when I wake ,I feel like I am wading through water for a while. I was doing an unforgivable act, interfering with a woman’s sleep.
It reminds me of a few decades ago when I was working with a grizzled old black man. I asked him if black women sleep like white women do. After all this time his profound words still echo in my mind . He said " Hey, Bitches can sleep".
I guess that is more wisdom of the Flying Spaghetti Monster. The extra hours is why vehicles are maintained and lawns are cut and trimmed. It all makes sense.
