I think I just discovered Bob Dylan's inspiration for writing "Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts"

Watching “Bonanza” on MeTV right now. The episode is called “The Saga of Whizzer McGee”. The episode description:

Whizzer McGee’s love for a gold-digging saloon girl leads him to take money from a crook who wants to use his room to break into the bank sharing the wall.

I’m picturing a slightly depressed, post-divorce Dylan who’s been working on “Blood on the Tracks”. He’s got most of the songs done but just needs one or two more to fill out the album. So he’s sitting on his couch one late night, smoking a joint, maybe having a couple beers, watching a rerun of this episode, and thinks, “heyyy…I got an idea”.

Very cool. Now get to work on “Yea Heavy and A Bottle of Bread.”

Gunsmoke, season 12, episode 17: Festus decides to start making homemade beer and puts on some weight.
