No, not really! The tiny steel plate was on the back of the nametag; a second tiny plate held two little magnets. The nametag was held against the fabric, the second plate (with the magnets) was applied to the opposite side of the fabric. The magnetism held the fabric sandwiched between the two little steel plates.
