Consiidering the rate that medical science is advancing, I’d say that anyone who’s under 50 right now really has no clue how long we’ll live and how vigorous our old age will be. We seem to be right on the cusp of breakthroughs in a number of areas that could significantly extend our lives or make our old age much more useful/enjoyable. Everything from tissue regeneration to improvements in understand Alzheimers and other age-related disorders is moving ahead at a rapid pace.
Just this week there was news about a study that discovered the active ingredient in red wine that appears to seriously lengthen lifespans. Human trials are underway. Another study in the last few weeks appears to have shed light on some critical new information about cancer. Stem cell research is moving forward rapidly. There was another breakthrough in genetics recently, which may lead to new treatments for a whole array of illnesses. Our medical knowledge is advancing at a phenomenal rate.
So, the best advice is to just keep yourself healthy as you can, and hang in there as long as possible. Wouldn’t it suck to die a year before they discovered how to increase your lifespan by 50 years?
