Today, I got a really, really weird package in the mail. A kimono. From Thailand. That I didn’t order.
It’s not showing up on my bank records that I ordered anything. It’s from Asiatique, which google seems to think is a large mall in Bangkok. 15€, sent via registered mail and through customs. I don’t know anyone from Thailand, there was no note, and this is very confusing.
I don’t know what they’re playing at here or what this means. Is this a scam? What actions should I take to protect myself?
If you didn’t pay for it, then I don’t think you were scammed, unless getting you to pay to send it back is somehow the scam. I would check the lining for drugs or other contraband.
I would contact the shipper and see if it was delivered to you by mistake. Perhaps your next door neighbor ordered it.
If your name and correct address was on it you can either keep it, or try to contact the company that sent it to see if they want to pay to retrieve it.
A huge, heavy box came addressed to me at my work address yesterday. It was from Bose. I knew I didn’t order anything from Bose, but I opened the box. There was a nice sound system, with a carrying bag and numerous accessories. I was befuddled.
Last night a friend called to see if the gift he ordered for me had arrived. He had requested a card with his name and Happy Holidays, but it was not included.
Could your kimono similarly be a gift? Time of year and all . . .
Your’re a guy, right? So it’s unlikely someone sent you an actual kimono as a gift. (There are men’s kimonos, but usually it’s a woman’s garment,) Could be someone sent you a “robe” that looks like a kimono, or it was delivered to you by mistake.
I would make some minimal effort to find the rightful owner, but wouldn’t worry about it. !5 Euros isn’t a huge amount of money.
On occasion, someone with a stolen credit card number will order something and somewhere along the line the deliver address gets changed from the thief’s to the card holder’s.
Are you sure there aren’t any charges that would include shipping charges?
