Well, I drank a quart of tequila and smoked a box of cigars and been doing this waaaay too long…but I guess I’ll get a cup of coffee and maybe a quick HOT shower and stay with it awhile longer.
Tell me they’re Cubans. I feel another Pit thread to bring me down from the Bush win.
God, I hope so. I have volunteered for every single deployment that has come down the road, and if you don’t believe me, ask Robin. She’ll tell you. I have spent more than 70% of my military career (Air National Guard) on acitive duty, and I am currently spending three weeks on an island in the middle of nowhere in the Pacific. That’s not even to mention that I am due for over a month of SP augmentee duty after I get home. I don’t think that anybody would dare say that I am not loyal to my country, and I think everyone would agree that I am very much a patriot (whatever that is-I’m no longer sure).
If we go to war in Iraq I hope to be on the very first plane there. Barring that, I will be there eventually. It bothers me more than you can possibly imagine that I am not in Iraq right now with the rest of our men and women. Again, ask Robin. I asked for a six moth tour in Iraq when it came up but I was not selected for it. I will go to Iran, even though I have a family, because it is my personal obligation to do so. Period.
That said, I hope I don’t have to. With Iraq we have bitten off more than we can chew, and I despair for the survival of our republic should we go to Iran.
Simple question: At what point is too much too much?
Answer: Iran. Afghanistan. Iraq. It’s just too much.
If our leadership continues to think that they can do whatever they want to whenever we want to we will cease to be a democratic republic. It is our responsibility as citizens to hold our leaders accountable. That we didn’t in this election is one thing. If we continue to do so we will and should be held in contempt.
And contempt or not I will be with the rest of our men and women, because in spite of the failure of our leadership it is my responsibility to do my best for each and every one of my fellow servicemen should they be put in a bad situation, whether it earns your contempt or not, bcause we are all we have. I will not allow a single serviceman (or civilian of any country) to die if I can do anything at all to prevent it.
President Bush, as a loyal American and Airman I implore you not to send us to Iran. I will follow your orders to hell, but please don’t do it if only for the sake of the millions of other loyal Americans who want nothing the peace and tranquility that they were promised their entire lives but which you have not yet delivered.
No, that can’t be right. :dubious: (Think about it, who was standing in line from 7:00 to 3:55?) I think what you must have heard is that the votes were 100% counted at 3:55 AM.
There are still 250,000 provisional ballots out there but historically only 20-25% of these are valid.
I think Bush has won.
Even if 90% of the provisional ballots are valid, Kerry would still have to get an unnaturally high percentage to overturn Bush.
Unless someone is tweaking the numbers terribly (which I have no reason to believe), it doesn’t look likely that Kerry can win this.
Oh shut up. I’m not saying we should have the government take over all supermarkets, become our landlords, or own the oil companies and tankers that bring oil to our nation.
What I am saying is that maybe war and turmoil in the middle east might raise the cost of fuel for our cars and for heating.
A raise in the minimum wage, IMHO, would most likely help out people feeling the crunch from prices at the pump and expenses of our faultering economy.
I suggest a raise in the minimum wage and I’m a communist. Ah partisanship.
Its people like you Airman that give me hope in relation to the U.S. you should post outisde the BBQ pit more too !
I’ll copy what I posted in the thread about conceding now:
The one thing that struck me most in the F-9/11 film were the black representatives asking for a recount/revote whatever in the Senate. Not a single senator supported them.
That is a good reason to go to the end… either to make sure no chance was lost… but also to dismiss any possible future conspiratorial ideas. Not because it might give Bush legitimacy he lacked before… but to kick the left in the teeth and make them wake up. They won’t have Nader or Stolen votes to complain about… only themselves. That is the only way to get their act together.
Whilst I agree that Bush has won, I was (randomly) curious about this point, as I have seen it posted a few times today on the boards.
The BBC say this (quote below): Are they mistaken?
Oh, we are
You got a mouse in your pocket? I’ve never said any of that crap. Although it is nice to see someone stick with his views even if they work against them.
At the time I posted, it was getting on for noon here in the UK, and I started watching the election around midnight last night. It’s now just after 3pm, and I still haven’t been to bed (since the night before last  ) … so yeah, I’ve been up all night to watch the election.
(Which explains how I came to post a garbled sentence like “and it’s been a great show and well worth staying up all night for over on the other side of the pond.” )
HIJACK -
Dude! You’re on Kwaj? I was out there 1987-88 and loved it! Put up a website somewhere and post some pictures, would you? Man, I’d love to go back out there.
The number I heard was in the last election 17% were accepted. I think it was NBC that said it.
Not that it matters at this point but I wasn’t mistaken about what was said in this quote. I know there has been a lot of confusion and some mixed figures and misquotes but that is exactly “what was said”. Now if they got it wrong…that’d be another story. But it was said a couple of times that…“the last voter finished casting their ballot at 3:55 am”. It caught me surprised too…so I made sure I heard it right the next time.
There were people in line for over nine hours in some places.
That’s still better than what happened here. The local paper printed the wrong addresses to go vote and thousands of people in several (predominantly democratic precincts) were turned away with no time to get to the proper place.
The paper apologized on TV and said it was an honest mistake. It didn’t or wouldn’t have much effect on the presidential race. But since many of the other races (one seat in particular) was real close…it probably did result in a Rep. going to Capitol hill that shouldn’t have. No biggie I guess.
The democratic headquarters here asked for a couple of hours extension and were denied.
I’m just glad it’s done finally… at least I hope so.
