Well, guh! It’s sooo obvious. He’s Socrates!
Except that Stings career path required a certain amount of not sucking combined with a dose of not sounding like generic version of Dave Mathews.
My prediction is that he’ll have a career path that closely follows Mathew Sweet’s.
Sting didn’t have to worry about Dave Matthews, since Matthews came well after Sting was ensconced as a popular artist. Matthews, on the other hand, needed to avoid being Sting.
Exactly my thoughts. Thank you for interjecting a sane voice of reason into this discussion.
zoid can count me in the “no-fun” camp if he wants, but I hardly think that the guy would randomly insert an SDMB reference into his crowd patter and shout-outs.
And who the heck is John Mayer? Nobody seems to have ansewred that question yet. Name’s common enough that a cursory Google search might not turn up anything.

His best known song is “Your body is a wonderland” and the video has him singing at the Georgia Theater in Augusta with a white button down shirt. He’s playing an acoustic on a stage with a bunch of Christmas lights. In my opinion, he sings in a kind of annoying whispery way. He not terrible, just . . . vanilla.
Nah, you’re thinking of “No Such Thing”. I do like the chords in that song.
Oh! We have reason, now?
I think it’s highly possible that John Mayer was referring to OpalCat, however directly or indirectly. She’s not exactly an unknown presence on the Web, as far as I can see.
Reason sucks. Bring on the crazy-ass assumptions and widespread panic!
