I think my mind has played a trick on me.

So, the other day I woke up and logged on the the SDMB. I went to check the thread in the Game Room about someone’s first time to a NASCAR race, since I had been posting in there (instead of lurking for a change). Oddly enough, I saw a post by someone talking about how to get a job with a NASCAR team. I only vaguely remember the post, specifically with a website in it to one of the teams (Roush Racing or something like that). That’s odd, I thought. Maybe they didn’t actually read the OP or something.

Now’s where it gets a little weird. Later on in the day, I went back to the above mentioned thread and, lo and behold, the mystery post has vanished! At first, I suspected that maybe the poster asked a mod to remove the post since it definitely didn’t belong there. After a little more thought, I decided that this didn’t sound right. When someone double posts or posts without reading the OP, they just edit the post to say something like “double post” or “nevermind,” etc.

So now I think maybe I was in some sort of “half awake yet still kind of dreaming” mode, since I can’t remember anything really specific about the post other than the website (not hyperlinked, but italicized which would really be bizarre here), plus I don’t think they’ll actually remove a post. So has anyone had something like that happen? (not necessarily on the SDMB of course)

A disappeared post with a link to a commercial venture that was only tangentially related to the OP? Almost certainly a webcrawling spamotron. Which would explain why the post is no longer around.

It happens, but they’re usually gone relatively quickly.

Well, that would certainly be a lot less creepy. Although it wasn’t a link, per se. You couldn’t click on it or anything. Still, I like that answer much better than one involving an imaginary post!
