Wow. It was surreal watching the split screen, with one side showing Americans at those raised arm things, and on the other side him saying the americans were beaten back and were commiting suicide. As much as a lot of folks here hate Fox, they had a live feed from the action, while when I flipped over to CNN, they just had what looked like a postcard picture of those arms on the screen. Not long before that, Fox was live at the palace, too, while CNN was showing a feed from Lebanese TV that wasn’t even showing the palace. I just wish I’d had had time to tape that speech…what a joker.
I understand that showing someone the bottom of your foot/shoe is equivalent to saying that they are so far beneath you, that they should be under your feet, that you should be allowed to walk all over them.
It’s very insulting to show someone the bottom of your foot.
In many (all?) Muslim countries, it is impolite to show the sole of your foot to another person, as it is considered unclean (because it touches the ground). Do a search on “Muslim taboo sole foot” or “Muslim etiquette sole foot” and you’ll find lots of pointers.
I want to see him debate Rush Limbaugh or Dr. Laura. That could be fun.
The iraqii news show that c-span runs sometimes is almost the same thing done tag team style …
I mean we lost the gulf war … and for a non religious regume they sure used allah and the koran a lot …
But if i remeber correctly Isnt the tv station ran by one of saddams sons ?
Forgot to add: I think Baghdad Bob (is that what we’re calling him now, then?) is a HOOT!
I get the biggest laugh out of his talk of “taking up your mighty swords against the weak, pathetic, evil, zionist (zionist? wtf!) losers who are coming to Iraq to be buried by Iraq’s mighty and victorious army”
I am with stuyguy completely on this… this guy is a hoot!
Check this out.
I could watch this guy 24/7. Own radio show? Ha! Own CHANNEL!!

Oh no, that man is DESTINED to do Jerry Springer!
I loved it when a few hours ago he accused the Al-Jazeera network of having a Western bias when he kicked them out again.
Every time he speaks I keep hoping that US soldiers will step into the room and take him prisoner just to watch him deny that such a thing is happening.
From a BBC correspondent this morning: “The Iraqi information minister just turned up in our hotel unannounced to give interviews. He said ‘there are no US troops in Baghdad’.”
This was the same hotel where Sky News cameras were at that time on the roof, filming US tanks manoeuvring along the banks of the Tigris river…
Bless.
Rather than hijack this thread, I started another one on Post War Careers For Baghdad Bob.
If you want surreal you need to watch BBC News give equal credence to Al Shaif (that’s his real name, right?) and Brig General Brooks of US Centcom. They don’t try to assess where reality comes in, just neutrally report both. I understand that, too a point, but at some point they need to confirm spoken statements with observable fact.
Be fair Shib. They show the minister claiming that there are no US tanks in Baghdad. Then they show footage of US tanks in Baghdad. I think they kind of credit the viewer with enough intelligence to spot the contradiction.
The Beeb also tends to say such-and-such correspondent is “subject to Iraqi reporting restrictions” or “subject to US reporting restrictions”. Whereas I’ve noticed that the US news reports I’ve seen (from Fox, CNN and CBS) tend not to mention the latter from their embedded reporters.
I would bet this guy has no idea the effect he is having on Americans. He’s becoming a celebrity. When he comes on here at work, everyone stops to listen (and laugh). We’re all just hoping some Marines show up during one of his briefings. He’d probably still deny it.
You know, I wondered where Dom Joly had been hiding. It’s only a matter of time before he starts doing his broadcasts in front of posters saying “Don’t trust this man”.
That man is destined to be Jerry Springer.
He reminds me of Jon Lovitz playing The Liar on SNL.
“No, they’re not in Baghad…they’re twenty fifty one hundred and fifty miles away…yeah. And those bombs are not bombs…yeah…they’re…fireworks celebrating our tremendous victory over the Great Satan! My wife is Morgan Fairchild…and they’re not even in the Persian Gulf, they’re in the Gulf of Mexico…yeah…”
I’m not sure about the TV reporters, but CNN articles from embedded reporters usually contain this note at the end:
ivylass: I was thinking the same thing. “We, ah, we let them into the country just so we could beat them up – yeah, that’s the ticket…”
I’m still waiting for him to tell us that the Coalition forces are actually actors they hired as a loyalty test, and that they’ve been taking names of everyone caught expressing anti-Saddam sentiments to any of the fake “liberators”.
HAHAHA! Most excellent observation!
Why, nooooo. That’s not an enemy soldier behind my back. It’s… It’s a bait! It’s a bait to fool the American into our trap and them crush them with our powerful Iraqi weapons. We have a gazillion weapons you know, Yeah, that’s the stuff…
