I try to sample a new fruit or vegetable every month or two. This is the Month of the Kumquat.
Yesterday I was at a friend’s house that had some kumquats and got to try one.
It was weird eating an “orange” rind and all. Of course, they aren’t an orange, they’re kumquats. And tasty.
Due to my known problems with oranges (mostly hives) I only sampled one in case there was an adverse reaction but I am delighted that, like with most citrus, there were no problems. Kumquats are now officially white-listed!
Please spread your kumquat love here!
I’ve never tasted one! Can you describe what they taste like?
I love kumquats. They are a citrus and will remind you of oranges. You eat the whole thing at once and will get both sweet and sour. I think most of the sweetness comes from the skin, and the sour from the pulp. Refreshing.
I grow Limequats.
Bet you didn’t know there were Limequats…
Kumquats are a classic fruit.
Orange, with a sort of lemon-like tartness/sour note.
If you mixed orange and lemon juice you’d get something close. The drink Orangina is pretty close, but of course a kumquat is not carbonated.
