I bought some of the prewaxed strips you just warm up by rubbing between your hands. I was doing my thighs. The pain didn’t really get me at all, but I found I wasn’t getting all of the hair. The hair there was pretty long though, so maybe that was it. I figure I’ll catch the rest with the razor later.
I’ve only had my legs waxed once before, and that was by a professional. I am pleased at my pain threshold. Of course, when I got a tattoo on my calf, the tickling sensation and automatic muscle jerks from the needle going over a muscle bothered me more than the pain.
I didn’t have much luck waxing my own legs, either. For the time it took, it didn’t do a good enough job. I do like using a rotary epilator, though. I have a high pain threshhold, too.
I think waxing whether at home or professionally is a brave act! While I’ve never had the guts to do it, I did invest in one of those electric epilators, Remington, I think. I like it and am happy not to have to shave every other day. The regrowth over the years has thinned to the point I barely need to bother, what hairs there are are so sparse no one notices unless I point it out.
If you like waxing, keep it up, you will find over a few years there’s a lot less hair growing back, and that makes it all worth it, IMO!
I get waxed professionally. I tried to shave but my back legs always ended up being a crazy quilt of leftover hair. Since my waxer only takes a half hour and it’s usually good for up to two months, it just makes sense over a bad shave that lasts only a week. Oh yeah it hurts but I have a decent pain threshold. My waxer says some of her clients take aspirin before their waxing.
I have a low pain threshhold so my epilator got donated and I stuck with shaving. I only shave about every two weeks now. Menopause is good for some things.
I hated the microwave wax so I finally broke down and spent the (pretty minimal) bucks to buy the professional waxing pot and wax and strips and shebang. It takes me about a half an hour to do. I watch the Daily Show while I am doing it. Doesn’t hurt too bad, lasts for weeks, grows back in sparse as hell. I say it’s an overall win
I attempted this once and ended up with lumpy itchy swollen red tender sore hives all over my legs. Same thing happened when I tried an epilator thingy. I decided this wasn’t a good look for me and went back to shaving.
