Anybody else think Charles Schultz was spinning in his grave? The whole show played like a bunch of strips back to back. There was no rhythm at all to it. It was very disappointing.
i lasted 5 minutes…terrible
Whoa, there was a new Charlie Brown special on?
yeah the wifer and i said “this is like they asked 100 people to write sentences on paper and pulled them out of a hat”
“I’m riding on the back of mom’s bike… wow she drives badly… i’m wearing a watch.”
I think they tried too hard to match the quirky pacing of Schultz’s other tv stuff. The music was good, but the humor just lacked Schultz’s touch. I switched over to the reindeer pretty quickly.
I thought he’d vowed before his death that nothing would be done with his characters? Was that the newspaper strip only?
Then Charles Schulz must have cloned himself. Or maybe he never existed, and that’s actually how his strips were written, having random people write sentences and put them together.
Being serious now.
Bill Melendez stated recently that Charles Schulz left behind a number of rough ideas for Peanuts specials. These will be presumably used in the future (a show about marbles is apparently one of them). After the death of Mr. Schulz, the specials have continued. So far, they have been based on stories and gags from Peanuts strips. This is no exception. (This idea has been used even when Schulz was alive. The short-lived Saturday morning Charlie Brown and Snoopy Show was based on this idea, and a few specials were done this way as well). Of course, this leads to an unusual special. Why they made it one hour, I have no idea. The main storyline (Rerun wants to buy Snoopy, but settles for Spike instead) could have been told in a half hour.
Where does the SNL ‘TV Funhouse’ short fit into the Peanuts canon?
