But I do not need one. I currently have a Blackberry Curve 8330 that works just fine for me. But it’s my birthday pretty soon and Verizon has a special deal right now…
Should I make the switch?

The online price right now on their site is not a deal that will change anytime soon at all. The backorder has about a month wait though. So the sooner your order the better. The manufacturer of the screen can’t keep up with demand, and there’s no end in site for the backorder. It’s a huge upgrade from your BB. I’m typing this mine right now.
You only get to go 'round this crazy world one time, so I say go for it.
I got a better deal in the mail because I’m a former Alltel customer who still hasn’t completely entered the fold yet. But I’m glad that you like it so far. How loud is it? My Curve never really seems quite loud enough as far as the ringtones go.
I have a Nexus One, not an Incredible, but I came over from a Blackberry Curve. Once you go from Blackberry to Android, you’ll never want to go back.
What about an EVO?
Re: the EVO- here’s an article that may help you decide: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/06/17/technology/personaltech/17pogue.html?ref=technology
(free registration required) Basically it has some awesome features (huge screen, 8 megapixel camera, records hi-def video, can turn into a Wifi hotspot, etc) with some serious drawbacks (dismal battery life, video calling requires a masters in engineering, very limited 4G reception, etc.)
If it were my money, I’d wait.
I have a Droid, and the internet capability is much faster and more versatile than on my work Blackberry. My BB is an 8830, though, so maybe they’ve gotten faster since then.
Alright, don’t laugh me off the page, but I just noticed that the LG Ally is also Android format and much more in the comfortably justifiable price range. Any thoughts on this?
I have a friend that works for Verizon and I’m also awaiting his response to the same question.
Heck, I’m an iPhone 3Gs owner, and even I’ve been considering a DI/EVO
I love the open-ness of the Android OS (no App Store approval issues)
I love the fact they have user-replaceable batteries and upgradeable memory cards
the whole 8MP camera and flash is nice
and most importantly, I don’t trust AT&T to continue the grandfathered in “Unlimited” data plan I’m on, I fully expect them to discontinue it at any point, forcing all smartphone users into their insipid tiered plans…
The instant AT&T does that (assuming they do) I’m leaving them, and I’m sure I wouldn’t be the only one, it’d be suicide for them to lose a large percentage of their smartphone base over this…
Yet I still want a DI…
According to Engadget, it’s not that good.
Plenty loud - and I don’t have the best hearing. I was Alltel too. If you’re not already on one, you should move to an Alltel smartpack plan. Data for smartphones and unlimited texts are built in at a cost the vzw plans can’t match. Some reps will tell you need a VZW plan, but that’s a lie. Ask to be transferred to a converted Alltel call center. If you haven’t already moved to a VZW plan, it will work. Secondary lines on these plans are 20 for dumb phones (which get unlimited txt but not data) and 40 for smartphones. It sounds like mote than their 9.99 add a line, but when you factor in features, mins, and friends and family numbers it’s a big savings.
Oh, and the touch screen on the ally really sucks. It is laggy, inaccurate, and nowhere near as responsive. It specs pale in comparison too.
You should wait. Motorola has android phones coming out of R&D that will make a good dog break his leash. If you go for the incredible now, you’ll be kicking yourself when the best thing since sliced bread and canned beer comes out.
At LEAST wat for the Droid X in a few weeks. Miles beyond the incredible.
+1 also for Sprint’s HTC EVO. Awesome device, and If you were thinking at all about changing carrieres, yo’ll find their smartphone plans much less epensive and more all-inclusive. I’m pretty intimately familliar with EVO, happy to answer any questions for you.
