I want a treehouse. I have this great old tree, maybe an oak, with huge horizontal branches, that’s just begging for a treehouse. If I had a treehouse I could spy on my non-existant neighbors, or draw up the ladder (because it would have to have a draw-up access) and laugh when my dogs couldn’t figure out how to get to me. I could take a book up there and read. I could lie on my back and look at the stars, which are brighter here than anywhere I’ve ever been. I need a treehouse.
I have a terrible memory about certain things so I may be wrong, but wasn’t/isn’t there a doper that posted about building a major treehouse? I have always wondered how it turned out.
The little boy who lives next door to me has one. (And a slide, trampoline, rope bridge, goats and goodness knows what else )
When I was young I had a cardboard box, but it was lots of other things too.
I’m a bit too old for a treehouse now though unfortunately.
I keep thinking now of “If I Had A Million Dollars” by the Barenaked Ladies:
“I’d build a tree fort in our yard!
(If I had a million dollars…) You could help, it wouldn’t be that hard!
(If I had a million dollars…) We could put a little tiny fridge in there somewhere…”
I say we all pitch in, build a treehouse somewhere, and christen it the SDMB Treehouse, or something cooler than that.
That’s it Vetch! I wonder how Phlosphr’s treehouse turned out.
You’re never too old for one. Some dear friends of ours built one in their backyard/jungle. It has three stories with winding staircases, a rope swing, dumbwaiter, hamock and slide. On the second level there is a solid oak dining table big enough to seat 12. It’s quite a site!
Vetch - I’m 43. And female. But I still want a treehouse!
I’ve read through Phlosphr’s thread. I wonder how his project turned out?
If I build it [sub]they will come[/sub] I’ll post pics. I have so many other more important projects, though. Enlarging my horse’s paddock and fixing up his stall in the barn, putting central heat & air into my 150 year old farmhouse, insulating said farmhouse. But some day…
