One of my fondest memories of travelling in the UK some years ago, was the prevelance of Chocolate/Orange Twix. While it may sound strange, it was actually a very good candy bar. And it must sell somewhat well in Europe, cause I saw it everywhere!
Now that Twix has finally rereleased the beloved Peanut Butter Twix, I do so hope they’ll consider letting Americans try this culinary treat, even if only for a trial period of time…
Chocolate and orange is a superb combination. So is chocolate and raspberry. Is it just the combination of C&O you want, Alzarian? Because there are alternatives: Toblerone oranges, for instance. Try one of those tea-and-coffee stores; not a coffeehouse, but an actual shop. They usually have exotic sweets; they might even have the Twix you’re looking for!
OH MY but that sounds good… there is NOTHING better then those chocolate oranges that you bust apart and eat in sections… wonderful chocolate with a tang of orange… amazing symphony in the mouth.
You guys must be crazy. That sounds wonderful. I haven’t had this so called orange twix but I have had a cookie that reminds a little of what you are talking about. The brand of the cookie is called Pims. The are the greatest cookie known to man. When I was in Italy and Spain in the winter of 1999 I was introduced to this taste treat. I was in love. I must have eaten 20 or so boxes while I was there. I bought several to come home with me and thank god I did. I found out that they are extremely hard to find in America. The one city I found them in was Tampa and that is a four hour drive from where I live and I love those kinds of cookies but I am not willing to drive four hours to get them. I was heart broken until just recently when I was in my local Publix and boom out of the blue!!! were my Pims. The come in Orange and Rasberry, perhaps strawberry but I can’t remember. I tell you and I’m sure that anyone who has had one will agree that they are amazing. So what I am trying to say is that apparently they are slowly bringing over sweets released in Europe first over here.
I know exactly what you are talking about. I was in London for 2 weeks in 1994. Orange Twix quickly became my favorite candy bar. Brought some home with me, but never did see them in the US. I was actually looking to see if they were sold online…
The regular (caramel) Twix are a candy of last resort for me, only appropriate when no other candy is available. Maybe the orange ones wouldn’t suck so much. (Caramel ones aren’t exactly the worst candy…I won’t even touch candy corn, those peppermint taffies they sell at Christmastime, or those jumbo jelly beans with the fake cream crap inside them.)
Chocolate and orange go incredibly well together. Try Green & Black’s Maya Gold and tell me that it’s gross.
Terry’s Chocolate Orange is utterly sublime, and the orange Twixes are really nice too, albeit a little sweet for my palate. They also do an orange Kit Kat in the UK.
Maybe it’s something you don’t ‘get’ until you try it.
(The Japanese make a million and one weird kinds of flavored Kit Kat too. I’m going to see if I can track down an orange one now.)
