I don’t see how this is censorship. It is not someone else trying to keep their work from being shown. They are willingly pulling their own material. That is being conscientious, not censorship.
I said it was close to censorship, not censorship per se.
It wasn’t Matt Groening or the people who produced/wrote/drew the episodes who decided to pull them from the air. It was FOX and the stations who run syndication episodes who decided it was a better business decision to pull the episodes.
If it was the Artist’s decision, I’d respect it. I have read nothing to suggest that in this case. It is a business decision, based on fear. Fear of people getting upset and asking advertisers to pull out.
I’m not sure when the REM episode will air now, it was originally set for November. Try http://www.remhq.com (the band’s official site) or http://www.murmurs.com (a great fansite).
Haven’t they cancelled that damn show yet?

Except that the first season sucks? So how does that satisfy a Simpsons craving?
Nonsense! The first four seasons are the best. Anything after that bites donkey apples.

**From the relevant article: “[Mike]Reiss also said that the N’Sync episode of recent days is being pulled from syndication for its depiction of New York.” Whatever that depiction was. But the subliminal, as well as the video dancers wearing bikinis and veils, must also have contributed. **
The N’Sync episode ran tonight in the regular Simpsons syndication timeslot on WLFL, channel 22 in Raleigh, NC. As far as I know nothing was cut, and it still included bikini-clad veiled dancers, bombs dropped on Sadaam, and the collapse of the Mad Building. There is also a quick glimpse of the Twin Towers as the Navy ship steams into NY harbor. It even had the “Join the Navy” ending.

**I read on alt.tv.simpsons that they also pulled the episode where they go to New York and Homer gets a parking ticket and a boot on his car. Besides the fact the the WTC is central to the episode, there is a scene where two guys from both towers are arguing through the open windows and the guy in the east tower says something like “they put all the jerks in the west tower”. That gag probably isn’t in very good taste nowadays, but when it was written they had no way of knowing that such a tragedy would happen. I don’t remember the title of the episode, but I think it’s too bad they’re pulling these shows. They were made before the events of 9/11 and have no relation to the events. Pulling them is a careful business decision, I understand that, but it is still pushing it a bit too far, and close to censorship IMHO. I can only hope that this is a temporary situation. **
NOOOOOOO!!!
That is my all time favorite episode.

Guinastasia
I know! It’s one of the all-time classics. I haven’t found anything beyond the discussion on Usenet, so I can only hope that the information is wrong.
I guess I should go and check snpp.com…
Ok, the episode I’m talking about is 4F22-The City of New York Vs. Homer Simpson. I have found some links, but mostly it comes down to:
According to Entertainment Weekly, episode “The City of New York vs. Homer Simpson” (4F22) with the WTC has been pulled from syndication. However, Fox has only sent a list of episodes to review to the stations, who make the final call.
I don’t know about where you all are at but here in Georgia they are running an add for the new season starting on 11/4 but at the top of the final image of the ad it says something very close to “if no baseball”.
So I’m assuming 11/4 will be when all of the series’ seasons start if there no game 7 or whatever is scheduled for 11/4…

Hopefully, they will do like last year and sneak in a new Treehouse of Horrors on Halloween before the seasons starts in its scheduled time slot.
