At least I don’t think it’s available. I want a feature that uses facial recognition to blur out the faces of whomever I’m sick of seeing. I know what they look like. Their pictures don’t interest me. Sometimes they even anger/sicken me just to see them. Would that be a difficult think to implement?
I mean, Facebook has asked me if I want to tag folks in pictures that are 20+ years old, so facial recognition seems to be pretty decent. I have declared this doable! Get on it, Google and/or Facebook or whatever technology company is in charge of the world.
How would the browser know which parties you wished to be Stalinesquely photo vanished ?
Plus browsers don’t link people in photos to their names beneath, presuming you censored by name.
- Upload photo.
- Internet magic recognizes the face… somehow.
- Happy browsing.
Duh.
But seriously, I suppose the browser would need to have some massive catalogue of famous faces for this to even begin to work. Facebook knows who we are because we’ve all told them that is is our face. Looks like a lot of interns are going to need to start on their giant database of labeled photos of celebrities! I can wait. This is important.
If they can replace Trump with kittens, I don’t see why Google Chrome can’t provide the feature you want.
I added that extension but it won’t work- at least at HuffPo
Can we do this with Kim Kardashian’s ass? ::shudder::
Facial biometrics, presumably. It’s not 100% accurate, but it’s really quite a commonplace technology now.
I got tired of seeing that one punk on Facebook whenever I opened it up and I Adblocked it. He is gone forever on that page anyway!
I wish that was available for Firefox.
Maybe, but how would you inform the browser whom you targeted ?
Plus you may cut out a whole swathe of similar people; Mr. Trump for instance looks like a great many ruddy-faced hearty Scottish lowland farmers.
[ Although his ancestry is from the Western Isles I believe — the ones who enjoy extreme presbyterianism as a sport. ]
I’m sure there are many analogues of Mr. Obama in East Africa, and many counterparts of George W. in the Netherlands.
Update: the extension will work if the photo is labeled “trump”. It’s not foolproof though. Looking through books suggested to me by Amazon, I see the cover of a collection of Harvey Kurtzman’s magazine Trump has been replaced by the kittens. Shux, even the smilie I tried to add to this post turns into kittens for me.
One can never have too many kittens.
Firefox is trying to become compatible with Chrome extensions.
HAven’t tested it with this particular extension, but it would surprise me if Chrome Store Foxified didn’t work with it. It almost certainly doesn’t use any Chrome only functions.
Of course, as said, it won’t work on a lot of sites, either. I’d guess it uses the filename (or alt/title text) to block, so the image markup would have to have Trump’s name in it.
Facial recognition is a bit intensive to do in a browser extension.
