I want to be Sam Vimes!

But I have already changed my name once before and it’s not encouraged. So I am not going to ask for it to be changed again.

I knew I’d probably have a new favourite Terry Pratchett character eventually, when I chose Lobsang.

Vimes is definately my new fave - he’s the type of character I’d want to be in real life.

P.S. Sorry if this is too mundane. I am bored and short of alternatives (at least I didn’t post lots of smileys this time)

Lobsang,

I really, really wish that I could have picked Susan. However, it is perhaps a little too mundane, and also the actual name of my dreaded Stepmonster.

I take it the new Pratchett rocks? I buy them in paperback, so I must wait.

Tatiana (secretly Susan)

Night Watch you mean? Yes, it’s the best one I’ve read yet (by far). Which isn’t saying much as I haven’t read that many.

I am currently reading Jingo. Which is also turning out to be very good.

Darling, they’re all good. In fact, I’m not sure which is my favorite. I like the Watch ones best.

Before this thread scuttles into Cafe Society, I have to say I think the Sam Vimes character in the Discworld novels is wonderful. Right from the start, when he was feeling the street cobbles through the soles of his boots in Guards, Guards (IIRC), he had me hooked as an observer of a truly believable, 3-dimensional character. In many ways, he still outshines the rest.

You have good taste in liking him, Lobsang.

God, I love those books. I’ve read most of them thanks to my public library including Night Watch. My favorite is probably The Fifth Elephant. I also prefer the ones which deal with the Watch, although I really enjoyed Small Gods. Come to think of it, I really enjoyed just about every book of Pratchett’s that I’ve had the pleasure of reading.

I just finished the Fifth Elephant last night. Excellent.

I love Carrot!

My local public libe has precious few Pratchetts. They get them for me on interlibrary loan, but they seem to be hard to find. Guards! Guards! came all the way from West Virginia!

mmmm… Discworld.
