Terry Prachett books

What’s your favourite?

I’ve been reading them all in order and I’m currently most of the way through Jingo, which I think is one of his best.

I must say though I like the Rincewind ones and also the witches. They’re probably my favourites.

My favorite changes every few months. I seem to go through cycles, but The Watch is probably my favorite little sub-group, and I will always love The Fifth Elephant. Jingo is a close second, tied with Witches Abroad. There is a huge Terry Pratchett following here on the boards, as I found when I started this thread.

The best part about TP’s stuff is that it never seems to fall flat; reading Discworld is always enjoyable.

The Watch books, Lords and Ladies, Carpe Jugulum, The Last Continent; those are among my favorites, but there’s never been a book I didn’t like.

I was just rereading Thief of Time and enjoying it even more. The Truth is next (again).

Oh, goodness…

Night Watch and Fifth Elephant tie for most favorite. Tied for second are Lords and Ladies and…erm, Monstrous Regiment.

Yeah, I know nobody’s read it. I found an advance copy at my local secondhand bookstore.

It’s good, since you ask.

theres nothing worse than a smug plastic ninja

You know I have to officially hate you for that, dont you, Little Plastic Ninja. The rest of us have to wait till… November I think.

Anyways, there hasn’t been a thread dedicated to Wee Free Men. Maybe not enough Dopers have read it yet?

I think it’s September, Gaspode, though it might be November.

And I’m kind of depressed about it, actually. Because next time I get to read new Pratchett, it’ll be 2004. :frowning:

And I like Wee Free Men! Not my favorite of his books, but it’s certainly exceptional. Tiffany’s just another one in Terry’s long string of wonderful female characters.

There’s one or two in Monstrous Regiment, too, but I’m not even going to put stuff from that one in spoiler boxes. It’s one thing to spoil a book or movie, it’s quite another to spoil one that ain’t been published yet.

Any questions, you can ask me through email.

I’m a huge fan of the Watch, and an even bigger fan of Death and Susan. Pratchett’s occasional forays into side storylines involving characters that rarely/never appear in the other Discworld books are also great (and a nice breath of fresh air). My favorite books, therefore, are not very surprising: Night Watch, Thief of Time, and Small Gods.

I started a little thread about Wee Free, concerning the painting (the Master Stroke chapter.) It was a while ago though.

My current favourite is Wee Free Men. Lords and Ladies is my long time love since it was the first one I read ten years ago. Wee Free is perfection in book form.

I’ve read Small Gods and found to to be enjoyable and in my top twenty books but the rest of his works are pure rubbish.

Thief of Time and Reaper Man.

I remember that, HDS. And I loved the painting you linked to.

Fucksticks, I’ve think I’ve read all of them. Moving Pictures was a particular favourite of mine tho’.

anything with Susan in it.
So, I guess that means Soul Music, Hogfather, Thief of Time…

Hogfather.

Definitely.

Night Watch, Soul Music, Thief of Time. I am not really a Rincewind-fan, but I’ll put The Last Hero up there, if only because of the pictures.

And Monstrous Regiment will be published 2 October, according to amazon.co.uk. Might as well preorder it

I’m re-reading The Truth now, so it’s my favorite. Last week I was reading Thief of Time, so it was.

Small Gods.

I’ll vote for Small Gods as well. Honorable mentions go to Thief of Time, Soul Music and Jingo.

Vimes is my favorite character.

Yeah, that’s about how I work. I just forced a friend to buy Men at Arms, because that was my favorite today.
