I googled arteries in body, trying to determine which artery was severed by surgeon that killed my Dad. It was discovered by surgeon, doing latest surgery, so who knows which surgery “something” was severed. I’m asking on the 19th anniversary of my Dad’s death and I have a TBI so I don’t remember. My Dad should have died during quadruple bypass or other major surgeries, but the one he dued from was low risk. But when surgeon opened him up he saw the mess the other surgeon caused. He had to perform another surgery ti try and repair, but had to get permission form signed by mom, bcuz he said chances were he couldn’t save dad, but he might be able to. However, if he did nothing, dad would die anyhow. We said do what you think can do, to save him. It couldn’t have been artery or he’d have bled to death years earlier. What organs in gut, could surgeon have severed, that dad could have lived with for 1-2 years?
You’re going to need to provide more detail than that.
What part of the body was the surgeon working on? How did you learn an artery had been severed? Why didn’t you ask the surgeon yourself?
Areas were always gut and heart. I incorrectly said artery which I stated in my update. This was 19 yrs ago. I was in rollover 62 days after dad died incurring Traumatic Brain Injury. I have memory loss. Please don’t say, “Why didn’t you ask surgeon yourself”, without knowing details, ie, two family members are medical professional who would have been asking questions and advising mom what to do. I obviously joined wrong group/forum. I’ll be leaving.
I signed up for wrong forum. I’ll be leaving. I edited my question. I have a TBI with memory loss and this was 19 yrs ago. I was hoping a medical professional would answer.
The Straight Dope Message Board is good for lots of things, but you’re probably right that it’s not the best place to get an answer to your specific questions.
Your situation sounds really distressing-- I’m so sorry for the loss of your dad and that you’re carrying the burden of lingering medical questions. And then for you to suffer a TBI, which has wreaked havoc with your memory… I’m so sorry that you’re going through all of this. I hope you can find a good message board to discuss what you do remember and get some support and answers.
All the best to you…
Best of luck to you. I hope you find the answers you seek, though I suspect you don’t have anywhere near enough information to answer your questions.
