Wednesday I got a frantic call from the woman who booked my band for a community event that we’re playing tonight. They’ve booked an interview with a local jazz radio station to promote the event only to realize that the event producer can’t make it. They wanted to know if I’d be willing to come down and talk about the event. I said yes.
This morning I showed up at the radio station at 7:45. We sat and gabbed with the DJ while he went through his various on air obligations then he played a track from our CD and introduced my husband and me. We got to talk about our event and about our regular gigs around town and talk a little about the CD. He played two more tracks from our latest CD which was very nice of him.
It was fun! I wasn’t nearly as tongue tied as I thought I’d be. My friends who listened said I sounded articulate and relaxed which is all I could have hoped for.
That’s it. My 15 minutes of fame are now officially over.
Since you asked I’m hoping this doesn’t go against any SDMB rules about shameless self promotion. On my website you’ll find clips from the CD and a link to the CD baby page where it can be purchased.
We recorded the CD live at various events over a period of about 4 months at the end of 2006. Our bass player is really into recording and has a very nice rig that he drags to gigs sometimes if he thinks the conditions are right for getting a good live sound. So he did all of the recording and mixing (and I’m very grateful to have him in the band).
I borrowed the money from my mom to pay for the CD and sales have been slow I’m thinking it’ll take the rest of my natural life to pay back the debt so I’m grateful.
Hey, I bought one when I saw the OP live a year or so back! Ah, Club Swank, how you are missed. Once a cool, speakeasy-style jazz club, it is now a gay leather bar called Studz, last I heard.
If you’ve ever visited the Studz web site you’ll see how it’s changed. I was really sorry to see Club Swank go. I’d love to see you again though BBVLou. I hope you’ll find a chance to come and see us again. We’ve got a new piano player and I think we’re much improved from when you saw us at the Swank.
Sorry, about the lack of stock. CD baby asks that you only send them 5 to start with (which we did) I’m sending more tomorrow. Should be back in stock in the next week or so. Thank you for your patience!
We weren’t thinking about bring the other back into print because it’s a different (not as good) piano player and we’re not particularly happy with the way that one sounded. I have about 6 copies sitting here in my office but that’s it. If you really feel strongly that you’d like to have a copy I’m sure we could work something out.
Meanwhile, we just got the final master back on our DVD. We weren’t planning to sell it, just use it for promo. I have to say, it does sound (and look) way cool…
Got the CD last night and listened to it on my way to work this morning – very nice!
You, of course, are excellent – your band is very tight – and damn, your pianist is wonderful. Nice choice of material – standards, but not “fuck, not this again” choices (plus two songs I’ve never heard before, “Centerpiece” and the last track).
My fave – “Cry Me a River” – which is one of my favorite songs. (I was making a mix CD once and couldn’t decide whose version to use, Joe Cocker’s or Caetano Veloso’s, so I used both. Consecutively.)
One suggestion: Rethink the use of the photo on the inside back cover – the way the sprockets are over your mouth makes you look like Hannibal Lecter.
All in all, a wonderful purchase – thanks for the tip!
Yesterday I got the e mail that the CD was back in stock. So I ordered it. Today I got what has to be the greatest shipping notice ever from a online vendor. I just have to share.
Damn I don’t get this treatment from Amazon. I may have to shop more often at CD baby.
I’m bumping this because I promised to buy the CD when I had more money & more CDs came into stock, and I forgot till today. So I searched for this thread, went to the site AND FOUND A COOL VIDEO!
