There are several good things about being a freshman CS major at Virginia Tech. One of them is that it puts you in contact with people even nerdier than you are. The kind of people who own the entire run of Babylon 5, for instance. One of the less cool things is that my e’er witty dorm hall-mates find triggering the fire alarm at 4:00 A.M. amusing. Another cool thing is that with even the piddling bit of background knowledge about computers that reading Neal Stephenson and Rick Cook gives you is that the workload is manageable.
Put all that together, and you have me doing something really pointless with today. But, I have watched another 20% of Babylon 5. In one day. I am hungry, I smell, all the decent dining places are closed, and I feel a desire to gouge my eyes out of my skull with a pencil to allevieate my suffering, but it was worth it.
The episodes averaged 40 minutes apiece. There were 22 of them. That comes out to 14.67 hours of Babylon 5.
Now THAT was mundane and pointless. The posting, I mean. The actual show is increasingly cool, and I’ve only found one major plot loophole so far. But, the way they handled the time-travel sequence was beautiful.
Just out of curiosity, what was the major plot loophole you found? It’s been a while since I’ve watched B5, and some of the details have gotten a bit blurry.
I taped the whole show not once, but three times! One to keep for myself, one to give to my nephews when they are old enough to appreciate it, and one to lend out, a tape at a time, in my attempt to convert the world to the idea that B5 is the best show that’s ever been on television.
Currently I am lending it out a tape at a time to one of the ministers at my folk’s church(I go to another church). He told me after the last set of episodes that he has never felt so emotionally involved with a television show before, and feels like a soap fan now.
I taped the whole thing and still have all of Seasons 1-4 and the final episode of 5. (I like to pretend the rest of season 5 didn’t exist, personally.)
Looking forward to the Season 1 DVD Box set coming out in November!
