I went last night to the most incredible danceclub I have ever seen anywhere!!

This place way beyond anything I have seen either in the movies, in person, or even in Las Vegas. The only club that even touches it is the RumJungle in Las Vegas and even then I’d put them in the same class.

It’s in Dallas off Knox-Henderson and Ross in the world famous Lower Greenville area of Dallas. It’s the older ritzy district where minimum requirements for social acceptance are having a recognizable family name, keys to at least a beamer or the valet ticket, or a group of friends with you that look swank enough to grant you admittance simply based on sauve appeal. Ok so its not that upscale…well…not according to those that qualify, but anyway…on to describing this club!

It’s called Liquid and its located in the historic Arcadia Theater. When you walk up, its got a Vegas style entrance with a vaulted canopy, red velvet(real) carpet, 3 valet lanes, and 3 gorgeous 6’ brunettes working the door and the VIP box. Cover is $10.00, 21 and up w/no exceptions unless you’re a celebrity, and amazing architecture at the entrance. The outside is just a reflection of the inside.

The walls outside are about 50 feet high and are completely covered in brushed aluminum(completely)! Its not flashy, brushed aluminum reflects very softly. Anyway, there are soft blue lights filtering the entire outside, and the sign is a fiberoptic reverse-channel with a very appealing tone.

As you walk in through the 8 entrance doors which are about 1 foot thick and completely shrouded in aluminum and blue light, you enter a lobby type area that also boasts the soft blue tones and aluminum of the outside. There is a wall length bar in the lobby with a black marble surface, and a piece of ultra modern granite sculpture art of a lifesize couple engaged in a bit of…ehh…fun! (resembles the old greek style statues).

As you walk up a flight of stairs and enter the main area, you find yourself in a room that is about 300 yards wide, and about 100 feet across…its huge. The ceilings are about 50-60 feet high, and the ceiling over the enitire dance floor can be raised and lowered at will by the DJ. Its covered in more lasers and lights than most clubs have in them, and has about 15 stacks of speakers just on it. It also has semi-clear tubes hanging about ten feet long from it that are filled with lasers and come down to the dance floor when the ceiling is lowered. The dance floor is made of brushed aluminum also…it entirely covers the floor which is about 60 feet by 80 feet. The walls are made to look like a mix between a cave and a granite/marble face and are done from floor to ceiling with excellent soft tone lighting. There are lasers lighting the walls with special effects, and mainstage on the far wall of this club there is a movie screen that is about 80 feet wide and about 40 feet tall. The main dance floor I described has a wide flight of 6 stairs leading up to this screen area which also has a dance floor just below it that is about half the size of the main floor. They have computer animation, japanime, light shows etcetera playing on this screen. On each side of the screen there are platforms with professional dancers doing their thing, and doing it very well I might add.

On the walls in various places and over two of the bars there are platforms coming out of the wall with a hired dancer doing their thing and laser lights basking them in color. And I’ve only described half of the club…

Everything so far is to the right of the original entrance. As you look left, there is a huge 50 foot bar running the length of the dance floor and raised up overlooking it straight at that main theater screen. Behind this bar, raised even higher is the DJ booth. There are about 6 turntables in this area and unlike most clubs its open so you can watch the DJ(s) work. On each side of the DJ booth there are stairs going up to a raised seating area that has 15 rows of chairs identical to a movie theater, and they all have a perfect view into the DJ booth and onto the dance floor and screen. Each row is raised higher than the next like a movie theater, but not as cramped and nowhere near as drastic. Heres the mindblowing part…every one of these theater seats are like a recliner and are covered in REAL black coach leather. Between each row there are round tables with a candle and a button on them to summon one of the 50 or so waitresses running about the place. The amazing thing is they all look like they could be supermodels…even the guys working the bar, and the dancers everywhere are unbelievably exotic and beautiful!

Behind this theater seating area, there are stairs going up to another area with two bars, another dance floor overlooking the entire club from up high, and with black REAL leather couches every few feet to watch the action from. Behind this area is the back wall of the club and two rooms off to the side that are full of red velvet couches, chais’ lounges, and recliners…both rooms are soundproofed so that the music is clear, but quiet enough so that you can talk.

I talked briefly with the manager/owner for a few minutes and he told me that on any given Friday or Saturday night there is usually as many as 10 major Hollywood celebrities there, and there are always at least 20 local and visiting proffessional athletes…this place was all class, and the clientele reflected it. He also said that in its few short months(7) of business, Moby has played there, Crystal Method, Prodigy visited, and Chemical Brothers…damn…I say again…damn!

I have been to more clubs than I could count in a lifetime, and in tons of different cities…this place blew the roof off anything I’ve ever seen. If you’re ever in Dallas, don’t miss out on this place! I wont be going to any other clubs in town again…nothing can touch Liquid and the place is so euphoric it almost makes me want to take up party drugs (j/k) The music is Trance/Techno/Rave and the dress code is standard, but the average look is very classy. You’re dealing with the Dallas elite at this place, so look the part!

I give it 11 stars out of 10!!!

What is this, some crap-ass advertisement?

There has been a Liquid club in Miami for quite a while, and i think it is owned by one of Madonna and Rosie’s lesbian friends, who has become famous for being nothing but a club owner.

Who the hell cares?

In other words, look like a $30,000 millionaire.

I tend to prefer places more along the lines of 2 Rows, or The Dubliner(absolute blast on St. Pat’s day, BTW), or even the Beagle.

Swanky dance clubs with the “more money than sense” crowd aren’t quite my thing.

Sounds like quite a killer club!

I, too, have been to numerous clubs in most big cities in the U.S. I recently returned from a trip to Europe. While there, I hit Ibiza (a clubbers mecca) and 3 greek isles (Santorini, Paros and Mykonos).

Ibiza is…well…Ibiza. Incredible. Don’t plan on sleeping. I survivied mostly on Red Bull (a super-high caffiene/energy drink) and will-power. While there I hit Eden, Es Paradis Terrenal, Privelege and Amnesia.

Eden was your run of the mill club. Nothing special.

Es Paradis was incredible. Housed in a huge pyramid off the strip, the inside is made up to look like a roman temple. Roman columns and real grape vines everywhere. There are enough raised platforms and stairs to make the place feel like a maze. The night I was there, they had a “water party”. In the pit of this roman temple, they sprayed water jets into the frenzied crowd. I’m 6’1" and the water was up to my waist. Totally insane. I left the club around 8am and the party was still going strong.

Privelege was ridiculous. I hear its the largest club in the world, although, to me, it didn’t look that big. It cost us $42 entry (per person) WITH a coupon. The night I was there, I was lucky enough to see Peter Tong open for All Saints. Inside the main room is a huge, bottom-lit pool. Pete was suspended on a platform over the pool while he DJed. Watching him control the crowd was like watching a puppeteer. They also have platforms where hired dancers do their thing. We were told that the club’s biggest night is Mondays (the Manumission party). Too bad we missed it.

Amnesia was the topper. The club itself didn’t appear to be that special. It was large with a central dance floor and balconies all around. Our night was “foam party” night. Around 6am, as the DJ stirred the crowd into a mad mosh pit, they started the countdown. At the end came the indoor fireworks followed by the foam. Three foam cannons placed around the balcony spewed blankets of foam on the crowd and the entire dance floor. At one point, the foam was deeper than I am tall. Then the club started raining…indoors. This cycle (foam/rain) went on for about an hour.

whew That was our first 2 days of vacation.

Following Ibiza, we eventually made our way to the greek isles. If you ever get there, visit:
Santorini - Enigma, Koo Club and Chili’s (beach club)
Paros - Varalathiko, King Size and Punda (beach club)
Mykonos - Sabbia, Remmezo and Super Paradise (beach club)

Liquid (I think there was one in Chicago. Or was that Fluid? <shrug>) sounds great. I’ll add it to my list of “must-see’s”.

Thanks for the info!

I will definitely add yours to my list of must see’s as well!

And as far as the doomsayers…nana nana nana…blah blah blah…

No its not an ad…please…

Oh… I wasn’t so much bashing the club as bashing that particular Dallas social grouping.

The club actually sounds pretty cool outside of the probable clientele.

I’m originally from Houston, and when I moved up here, I was(and am) appalled at the amazing level of superficiality that many people in the 20-40 range tend to display relative to that in Houston. The general atttitude I see is one where appearance is everything, and you’re weird if you don’t buy in & go into debt to keep up. (just look at the cars on the tollway some morning!)

The Dallas area seems to take some perverse pride in just how superficial it is, and lots of the nightspots tend to reflect that, which is something I intensely dislike about them.

I don’t go to Greenville because of the people…I’m always in Ellum! I never knew this club was there because I don’t go down to Greenville to party…

I’ll give it the final judgement probably on Saturday when I go and its packed. Thursday was not excessively busy so my guess is its social night and status quo evening…

Thank you for explaining!

No problem.

I’m more of a kick back, have a few beers type guy. I don’t have a problem with dancing, hell, I’m one of the only men I know who will dance when I’m sober as a judge!

I’m just sort of bummed about the Dallas scene for the reasons I mentioned above.

Ellum’s cool- I particularly like places where they have live music- Trees, etc… Plus, the women are cuter down there!

Where’s your hangout of choice in Deep Ellum? I don’t really have one, living in the Great White North(Plano) and all…

Last weekend I went to Carlo’s and Charlie’s bar in Cozumel, Mexico. I’ve been to fancier places but never any more fun. There were half naked men and women dancing on the tables, servers walking around pouring drinks down your throat and mixing it up for you, hot music, fun crowd, and a good time was had by all. We had an absolute blast.

I sort of fell out of that whole dance club scene a few years ago–too full of superficial people spending ridiculous amounts of money–and half of them were bad dancers.

I picked up swing dancing 2 years ago, and love it. There’s a far classier crowd, and it actually takes a little skill to actually dance. It’s a great date thing to do, and the guys… well, let’s say they tend to act a little more refined when they’re leading a girl in a dance, than when you’re just off shaking your boo-tay.

Don’t get me wrong, I dig Moby and The Chemical Brothers; I just am no longer fond of the scene.

Ah, I have such fond memories of Limelight and Palladium in New York, in the mid-1980s . . .

Limelight was an 1840s church, and they kept the stained glass and a lot of the woodwork. There was always a nook or cranny to neck in. It’s still around, but hasn’t been a nice place in at least ten years.

Palladium was a 1920s opera house (recently demolished, dammit) and they also kept a lot of the architectural details: huge place, lots of places to sit and rest. The ceiling upstairs, where they had lots of sofas and throw cushions, had the original putti, scrollwork and gorgeous sculptural details.

NOT that I spent a lot of time looking at the ceiling . . .

I get in VIP at the Lizzard Lounge and at Clearview/Blind Lemmon so I usually frequent those places.

Friday night, Clearview is my dig and I hang out in the Red bar until about 10 minutes before last call(techno).

On Saturday nights I usually hang out in The Lizard Lounge(techno) on 2424 Swiss and Good Lattimer and I’m there until just after 3am. The Edge 94.5 broadcast’s Edgeclub 94 live from the lounge so the crowd is huge.

If you dont like the yuppy scene at places like Liquid, and imho Trees(I never go there) then you’ll like The Lounge. If you have any taste at all for Trance or Techno, then its your new place. The age is between 18-30, mostly young twenty-somethings and the security is superb. One of Dallas’s oldest and best clubs.

Another rather good one is Club One. Its also a Trance and Techno style hangout with great scenery and a good crowd…the clientele here is more 23+ to about 30-somethings.

Me…I’ll be turning my back on my VIP cards and start working on getting one to Liquid!
