I Wish I Could Make All Evangelical Voters –

That is a misrepresentation of what I said. I never said that Trumps poor character is a positive. Only that it does not mean God could not use him. Read Habakkuk, that is very clear.

Figured I’d pop back into this thread after a bit of an absence.

First, yes, God can work through people who aren’t of good character. The book of Jonah is undoubtedly fictional, but it makes this point - Jonah is a real scumbag, before and after preaching to the people of Nineveh. They hear his message and repent, but Jonah’s still pissed at God for not destroying the city, but instead showing compassion to the people living there.

BUT that doesn’t mean we should choose to give power to evil people, just because God is capable of turning their evil to good. You shall not put the Lord your God to the test, remember? Good people are more likely to do good things in the first place, duh!

And how often has God intervened to stop great evil? There are millions upon millions of bodies from all across the twentieth century, all across the globe, that say we’re on our own. Is America better for four years of Trump? Of course not! Not only the pandemic and the family separations, but he’s mainstreamed what was formerly a radical and extreme agenda of hatred, lies, and deceit. That pandemic has gone mainstream, and won’t be cured by vaccinations.

No, if God’s going to work in our fallen world, he’s going to do that through us. And if we choose to act by elevating agents of hatred and anger, we’re working against God, not with him.

Here endeth the lesson.
