I won an iPad! And other good luck for the day

A couple months ago, a coworker of mine won an iPad from a vendor sales event when he was the only one to show up, so by default he won the raffle.

Today we had another vendor event (different vendor) and I attended this one. Yesterday I was talking about how I was going to win an iPad as well, hoping I’d be the only one to show for this one.

Well, I wasn’t the only one to show up, but I still won. Woot!

The funny thing is that 10 minutes beforehand, our table won a prize for performing the best case study analysis. ‘Our table’ being me and one other guy - so the total of 6 Starbucks gift cards got split between the two of us. $45 of free Starbucks! Woot!

I got a lottery ticket on the way home from work today. However, with the drawing being on Friday, I dont know if luck will work that way. One can hope.

Congrats on the iPad. What apps are you planning on downloading?

Not sure yet. Not that I had been trying to justify purchasing one before, but I was considering the ways it might be useful:

  • ebooks (I dont read a whole lot, so a dedicated eBook reader would be a waste for me)
  • reference docs for work, more easily accessible than powering up my laptop
  • more convenient internet access than my laptop when I’m travelling (I dont have a smartphone)
  • lazy web browsing on the couch
  • photos (having them on the computer is nice and all, but a more portable platform is nicer)
  • videos for when I travel. Just have to figure out how to get shows from tivo onto the thing.

Other than that - I dont know yet. Not sure which apps are out there, but I’m sure I’ll find plenty.

Neat!

Don’t bring it grocery shopping, though.

Don’t forget Plants vs Zombies, the greatest game in the world!

I just discovered a cute app called Distant Shores. A true time-waster and yet a tad addictive, I am finding.

Well for those who DO read, check out www.gutenberg.org. Nothing really new there, you won’t find Stephen King or Harry Potter, but you will find 33,000 free books.

No, you can take it to the grocery store. Just don’t leave it there!

Check out flipboard.
