I wonder if the is text is really from AT&T

I’m sure most of us have heard about the widespread AT&T outage that happened on Thursday. I’m an AT&T customer but was not affected by the outage.

This morning, I received this text:

“It’s AT&T. We apologize for Thursday’s outage, which may have impacted your ability to connect with others. We value you as a customer & commit to doing better.”

First of all, this is a weak-ass apology if I ever saw one.
Second, it came from an unknown number. AT&T has sent me texts before (“your bill is ready” and such), but never from this particular number.

Makes me wonder if someone is taking advantage of the outage for a phishing scam. Not that it matters; I’m ignoring the text either way.

Eh, I got the same thing.

Mine said

ETA: the “phone number” it came from was 11112000

Did you do a reverse search on the number?
I’d say the “It’s AT&T” would be the main red flag.

I received the same one from the same number this morning. Doesn’t ask for a reply or to click on a link, suspect it’s AT&T just texting every customer.

FYI, I read someplace that affected customers are going to be offered a five-dollar bill credit.

I feel this comes off as worse than not offering anything at all.

From a news story

$5 credit could take two bill cycles to take effect, and it added that the reduction won’t apply to prepaid, business and Cricket Wireless customers.

I just looked through my texts, the ones I’ve gotten all start with
“AT&T Msg:”

It’s Ok as far as a preparatory phrase or whatever. It’s the opening. They left out the “And …. What? something something here’s where we’re going to do something really nice for you, Service is OK, here, they have to change out the hamsters in the cell phone towers periodically, stuff happens.
