I wonder if the Prince William "saves someone" news will get old?

Another helicopter rescue mission for Prince William.

I’m a bit puzzled why this is news? It’s his job. He’s a copilot in an Air Rescue Helicopter. He’s sent on these missions anytime he’s on duty. It’s a bit insensitive to ignore the rest of the crew. IMHO

I wonder if the news will tire of reporting this story? I’ve read William wants to continue his career for as long as possible. He’ll be flying a lot of missions. Hopefully he’ll make full pilot eventually.

Oh, I dunno. If his being famous brings a little spotlight to the rescue services I don’t see it as a bad thing. It certainly does no harm.

Considering that the MSN homepage had a story yesterday on how Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt “ALMOST MEET!!!” at a movie theater…I suspect that, no, the news will never tire of moronic stories like these.

I mean, most celebrity gossip isn’t really news. Honestly, “celebrity performs good day’s work at small but real danger to themselves, everyone takes it matter-of-factly” is the most unusual, and most-respectworthy celebrity headline I can remember!

“Spoilt Inbred Does The Job He’s Paid For”. In a way, it actually is news, since most of them don’t (I’m looking at you, Tory party). But my first reaction to the thread title was “*Get *old?”. I can’t quite decide if I’m more tired of hearing about this or the Olympics.

You think “Prince rescues someone in distress” is going to get old? Is to laugh.

Personally I think ALL rescues are newsworthy, the difference in this case is that being wealthy he doesn’t HAVE to join the armed forces, he doesn’t HAVE to work for a living, he doesn’t HAVE to risk his life.

He could stay at home and do bugger all if he wanted to.

When did Buffet, Gates, Branson etc. go and get a job as, say a lifeboat crewman ?

Or fighting forest fires ?

And who has criticised them for, not surprisingly , not doing so ?

The answer is NO ONE.

So, bitchy remarks from those suffering terminal jealously aside, yes most people DO find it newsworthy.

I think male members of the royal family are expected to serve in the military, just the same way all members are expected to do charity work and visit children’s hospitals and all that. Otherwise they’re just a bunch of spoiled wealthy people. Remember in the '80s when Diana and “Fergie” and Andrew were all seen as having just a little bit too much fun with their yachts and ski vacations? Nothing wrong with what they were doing, except that they’re royalty. The charity work (as well as the endless scrutiny and intrusions of privacy) is how they pay for getting to live in palaces surrounded by priceless antiques.

So yeah, you were born into (or married into) this three-ring circus, but by God you’re gonna pay for it.
