IANOL - Is the supreme court non-partisan

This question is several years late, but I cannot find anything in my archive search.

The Bush/Gore decision, Florida (yes, it has been years and the facts are fading  ) and the recount (or lack thereof).

I want to believe that the Supreme Court does not let politics and/or short-term beliefs (like party line demo/repub decisions) get in the way of their lawyerly thinking, but it seems from my non-law background that the worst thing that could have happened did happen- the Justices seemingly voted by party line.

Is there a legal standing that explains why the judges voted as they did, with precident, showing or proving that they did not vote solely because of the party they tend to agree with, or used to belong to? States rights maybe? Thanks.

Well, the opinion and the various dissents give the stated reasons why the justices voted as they did. Have you read that?
