Ice Cube, Milk, Fat?

A guy I work with swears that if you put an ice cube in milk, it sucks the fat from the milk and it collects on the ice cube.

After several arguments, he finally produced a glass of milk and some ice. After a few minutes he plunged his hand into the milk and produced an ice cube with some white on it. Well, I should say, in it, for the white “stuff” was not on the surface.

I say milk crept into small crevices in the cube. He says the ice cube magically sucks the fat straight from the milk.

Anyone know the straight dope?

try it with skim milk…

Looks like he’s milking you for a sucker.

Seriously, have your friend explain how the ice cube causes the milk fat to cling to it.

BTW, the milk fat should be yellow, if I’m not mistaken.

Fat is, by it’s nature, hydrophobic. The ice is water. Energetically, it would be unfavorable for the fat to magically be attracted to the ice.
