ICE is racist, fascist, lawless, and running concentration camps

Hehe, those are the sections where grandpas still have the fire hydrant wrenches from the hot summers of their youth in the 70s.

Rick Blaine: “Well there are certain sections of New York, Major, that I wouldn’t advise you to try to invade.”

ETA: Beaten to it. Oh well. It’s still a great line.

Which - to be clear - they are already literally doing.

They very well might.

Why not? They’re already getting away with assault, theft and murder out in the open. Create enough chaos and the right narratives and all bets are off.

Are they? Jonathan Ross is going to be living in fear for the rest of his life. Their crimes are being documented and exposed to the nation. Minneapolis is as close as you can get to an uprising without people actually shooting at the cops. They’re being run off and embarrassed everywhere they go. The public is turning on ICE and their morale is breaking because they know that they’re gonna have to spend the rest of their lives being treated like Nazi concentration camp guards. It’s not going to get BETTER for them if an actual shooting war breaks out, because they don’t have the support of the population and they don’t have the numbers to not need it.

Literally the entire point of my post is what does or doesn’t fly in Minneapolis, New York, or LA is irrelevant if Trump’s goons simply lock the doors of the legislative chamber and don’t seat their representatives, and simply declare those states to be in rebellion. At that point the only thing that works is a general strike.

Yes I see people hounding and harassing ICE in the streets and that’s great. What I don’t see is a critical mass of people willing to risk their jobs and livelihoods. Facing a small chance of getting popped with a pepper ball is a different risk than a certainty of losing your job and paycheck in a general strike. And so far we haven’t seen many people take up the latter risk. Maybe the will is there, I dunno, but most people faced with losing their job or rolling over have simply rolled over.

I’ll repeat for clarity: people can and will get rowdy in the streets all day, but when Trump locks the legislative chamber and refuses to seat their reps, getting rowdy in Minneapolis won’t do a damn thing for that. People have to be willing to lose jobs in a general strike.

The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency blocked all entrances to the National Assembly by 23:04 and prevented lawmakers from reaching the plenary session to overturn the martial law declaration. Lawmakers instead maneuvered around police barricades to enter the Assembly, with some assistance from civilians. At around 23:00, Lee Jae Myung live streamed himself climbing over a 1.5 m (4 ft 11 in) fence to gain access, and Speaker Woo also had to climb a fence to enter the Assembly premises. Lee Jun-seok, leader of the Reform Party, was seen confronting police officers for obstructing lawmakers, but recounted later that some police officers appeared not to know what to do.

At 23:50, UH-60P Black Hawk military helicopters were seen approaching the grounds, prompting lawmakers and aides to build furniture barricades inside. Around 23:57, the 707th SMG appeared in front of the National Assembly Proceeding Hall, attempting to enter the building, leading to scuffles with aides and legislative staff who tried to prevent their entry. DPK spokeswoman Ahn Gwi-ryeong was seen trying to seize a rifle from a soldier before the soldier pointed it at her briefly, prompting her to berate the soldier saying “Aren’t you ashamed?” as the soldier walked away. The video of the incident was captured on a livestream by OhmyNews and viewed millions of times on Twitter. She later told BBC Korean Service that “I didn’t think… I just knew we had to stop this”.

At 00:45, around 300 military personnel entered the National Assembly building, broke windows and attempted to enter the main hall, where Speaker Woo was about to begin the plenary session to revoke the martial law decree. In response, staff sprayed them with fire extinguishers and successfully stopped their entry. Some soldiers attempted to enter through the fourth floor, but were stopped by employees.

Soldiers broke the windows of several MPs’ offices, while injuries occurred during confrontations inside the building. Ultimately, the soldiers were unable to access the main session hall, whose entrances were barricaded using furniture installed by staff. At least three helicopters also landed on the Assembly grounds while two others were seen hovering above. Armored military vehicles were seen on the streets, while the martial law command also ordered the eviction of the Presidential Office press corps from its building in Seoul.

The National Assembly commenced the emergency session at 00:48 on 4 December. At 01:02, with 190 of 300 lawmakers present, they voted unanimously to lift martial law.

Yes. Yes they are.

Maybe. Maybe not. Now do all the other officers violently assaulting people in the street. Because this “Hey, they’re only getting away with 7 out of 10 illegal things they’re doing” argument isn’t as compelling as you seem to think.

And the last I checked, the US isn’t South Korea, or France, or Brazil, or any other country that actually holds its leadership criminally accountable.

It took 60+ years for John Demjanjuk to face justice. We have time on our side. They don’t. There’s no plausible endgame where they live happily ever after as the heroes they fancy themselves being.

ICE holding three members of the Oglala Sioux tribe hostage, until the tribe signs an immigration agreement with DHS.

Is that supposed to be a counterargument?

How many brownshirts were brought to justice for Kristallnacht?

Here’s a partial list.

Now we just need some other country to take us over to impose justice.

The people I linked to above were tried by German and Austrian courts.

“In other news, protesters have painted a picture of a tunnel on the side of a mountain, causing ICE agents to drive into the wall at high speed.”

Holy Coyote, Batman!

Ah, so all you need is for a coalition of foreign nations to utterly defeat the US in a devastating war, and split up the remnants between them afterwards.

“Protestors were later heard performing a mostly-correct xylophone arrangement of ‘Those Endearing Young Charms.’”

Uh huh. And do you think you see Hakeem Jeffries vaulting the barricades to do his civic duty when he’s barely done jack shit as it is? Chuck Schumer will stand bleating on the sidewalk about how a Republican reverse-secession coup isn’t helpful for the national debt or the affordability crisis. It’s incredibly naive to think these guys are going to show any kind of physical courage when they can barely even display a minimum of moral courage.

Anyway my point isn’t about whether protesters will win a street brawl. Maybe yes, maybe no. The point is we may be facing a constructed fake secession crisis that can only be resolved by a general strike, and I’m not seeing any appetite for a general strike.

You do realize that you’re describing a civil war. Once the federal government declares that a state is in rebellion, a war has started. I’m not saying that’s impossible (though it’s far-fetched), but that will cause armed conflict. That’s what a rebellion is.

The state may surrender in the face of overwhelming military force, assuming the Republicans can get the armed forces to go along with everything, but we’re still talking about military action here.
