It seems to be the same people who think iceberg lettuce has no taste. There’s your answer.
Well, let’s try that famous science experiment with red food coloring/ink and water, Mister Smart Guy!
I’m polishing off leftovers of stuffed shells, and I made a salad. I am trying to comprehend how it could possibly be edible without any iceberg lettuce…
I can see how the subtle taste of Iceberg could be dismissed as ‘no flavour’, especially if the people saying that are big fans of thick, punchy dressings, or have otherwise only ever eaten it in conjunction with other flavours that overwhelm it, but to say it’s the same flavour as celery is just mindbogglingly weird. My mind is officially boggled.
I also have a strong sense of deja vu typing this. Have I said this before?
Iceberg lettuce has been shown to cause chronic and progressive memory loss.
Hey, so does beer.
Celery definitely does have a flavor. It’s a very similar flavor to what’s found in the seeds or roots, but diluted to the point where it doesn’t punch you in the face. You can still taste it, though.
How did this thread get to be three pages long without my seeing it?
Iceberg Lettuce = World’s best lettuce! It’s crunchy. It’s juicy. It goes with lots of different foodstuffs. It keeps well. What’s not to like? Ok, I can tolerate a few salad greens now and again (wouldn’t have said that five years ago) but only in tiny quantities so I can disguise that nasty bitter taste with something that actually tastes nice.
You can’t make San Choi Bao with a cos lettuce (that’s a winning argument right there). You can’t wrap up a spring roll and dip it in sweet chilli with an endive. And you certainly can’t make a decent caesar salad with rocket (actually you can’t make anything decent with rocket except compost)
You poor deluded souls want to deprive yourselves of tasty iceberg? That’s fine, send 'em to ME! You can spot me easy, I’ll be the one crinking a delicious tall glass of plain water.
I use rice paper. I make lettuce wraps with romaine. What advantage does iceberg have?
Lettuce wraps are nice with a nice large iceberg leaf, but they’re fantastic with a nice large Bibb leaf.
Rice paper AND lettuce! Lettuce gives it the crunch. Romaine/cos just isn’t the same, though I will admit that for some applications they’re almost as good as the real thing. But then, Cos is probably the most iceberg-like lettuce that isn’t a tually an iceberg
What is cos?
I cut the rib from Romaine for wraps, does iceberg work better? Perhaps if you cut an iceberg leave in two the pieces are large enough for wraps.
Just another name for romaine.
As well you should, you celery stalker you!
CPs are after bugs, not plants!
Get a grip.
If you wanna eat out you gotta break it out, romaine
If you wanna get it down, it grows on the ground, romaine
Shit don’t lie. Shit don’t lie. Romaine.
If your day is done and you want the runs. Romaine.
If you got bad gas and you wanna kick it in the ass. Romaine.
If your fiber is gone and you wanna ride one. Romaine.
Don’t forget this fact. You can’t take it back. Romaine.
Shit don’t lie. Shit don’t lie. Romaine.
Shit don’t lie. Fiber don’t lie. Romaine.
