Survey tech. crash-lands on a planet populated entirely by women. They reproduce through parthenogenesis, done by machine to keep the planet alive. They think he is a monster, because the Mothers always told stories about Men and our hero isn’t the Doc Savage type. The title I keep remembering is “Amazon Planet,” but Google is of no help, and Amazon even less.

My bet is that the Dope can identify this book in less than 15 minutes.

That sounds really familiar - was it a short story? It seems to me I read it in an anthology not too long ago.

Nope. Short novel, but definitely a novel.

Virgin Planet by Poul Anderson?

Bingo!

7 minutes. Not a record, but not bad. Thanks, Cartoonacy.

I never heard of it until a few minutes ago, but Google led me to this page, then I looked up the most likely candidates.

I have it, and I’ve read it, and that’s the one.
