ID this (classic) car

Its a little two seater car, not quite a micro car as it had four wheels, made in France IIRC. It was a fancy little design and cost a fabulous amount of money, because of its two cylinder engine design that, IIRC again, had an alloy construction.

There were two models, one a successor to the other, and they didn’t last past the 70s because of the high cost. Any car fans recognise it?

Boy you got me. When you said French and two cylinders I thought of a 2CV but the problem is they were four seaters, and cheap as hell.

You know, I’ve seen them, but the name escapes me just now. Expensive car, cast aluminum cowl area. The museum in Paris by the big arch-shaped office building had several of them.

Blasted crappy memory, anyway!

The Gregoire?

Was it an Alpine of some kind? They used to make nifty little two-seaters.

Not a sports car, passenger and driver were enclosed, the body was a sort of teardrop shape.

I had an interesting article in an old car magazine on them but it was sent off with the rest of my old mags to Dad’s car club. Don’t think they’d know either, they’ve a definite slant towards British cars.

And if it helps, I think they were rear engined as well. They were made by a now defunct company, it wasn’t an offshoot of any big firm like Lexus/Toyota.

Teardrop shaped and French? Sounds like a Talbot Lago, although a quick web search says they had six-cylinder engines.

How about a Bugatti Type 57C Atalante Coupe? Like this one.
Expensive as hell? Check.
Two Seats? Check.

Is linking straight to the image disabled? Some of the pictures on that site worked for me, some didn’t. Maybe it’s cookified.

The original page is here, and scroll down to the bottom.

Just because I think the Type 57C was one of the prettiest cars of all time, here are some more links to pics. Real car p0rn if you ask me.

It was only expensive for its size, so it definitely wasn’t exotica like a Bugatti (although those are some awfully pretty cars)

Something from this page might look familiar.

Citroen ?

Definitely not something from a big manufacturer like Citroen or Renault, not a little bubble car either, big enough for four wheels.

Was it the Panhard Dyna?

I bet sixpence you are right.

I think that sixpence is yours, thanks MrFloppy

Looks like I got a few details wrong too, like the rear mounted engine and two seats, although I may may have been thinking of this Panhard, the 24CT in particular. Nice looking machine too.

Likely not what you are looking for, but similar and cool nonetheless…
