ID this feline fantasy book?

An on-line friend is trying to remember the title and/or author of a book she read about on a website, she can’t remember where.

She says the book is part of a projected series. It was written in the last four or five years, and the author was a young woman, maybe even in her late teens.

The story is about half-human half-feline beings who were in charge on Earth until the humans returned.

Sound familiar to anyone? We’ve been googling like crazy with no luck.

I don’t know if its right, but the description sounds like the story *A Dream Of A Thousand Cats * from the Sandman comic. It tells the story of how cats once ruled the World, with men as their toys and prey. One night 1000 men dreamed the world where men ruled, and their dreams became real. If 1000 cats dream they can return the World as it should be.

I think there were a few Sandman text stories written by other authors, but I’ve not read those. Perhaps a sequel to the comic?

Peter, thanks. She’s pretty sure the story was written by a young girl, but she may have remembered wrong.

I googled this story, and it looks really interesting, so even if it’s not the one she’s looking for, I think I’ll like it.

Could it be Breed to Come by Andre Norton. It is from 1972, but the cats are in charge until the humans return.

Whoops, forgot the link.

Breed to Come

That sounds like a definite possibility – I’ll pass it on. The publication date doesn’t fit, but she might have been mixed up about that. Thanks!
